Vico Software Introduces Doc Set Manager

Construction Drawing Set Comparison Tool Locates Changes in DWGs and PDFs

BOULDER, CO--(Marketwire - January 13, 2010) - Vico Software, the leader in 5D Virtual Construction™, announced today that Vico Doc Set Manager is available and shipping. Doc Set Manager is a complete construction drawing set comparison tool for DWGs and vector-based PDFs. Vico Doc Set Manager automatically collates and compares drawings for construction projects; identifying changes and making it much easier to assign and track clouds and links to requests for information (RFI's).

"With Vico's Doc Set Manager, we can quickly compare thousands of drawings and locate even the smallest design changes," reported James Bedrick, Vice President, Virtual Building and Design from Webcor Builders. "This used to be an arduous manual process. But now we can find the changes electronically almost instantly and avoid costly change orders later in the construction process. This saves the entire project team plus the Owner time, money, and frustration."

Users identify changed or new documents just by scanning the color-coded Document Registry. Once a changed document has been identified, users review the changes with three different comparison modes: side by side, highlighting, and slider. These changes can be quickly clouded, annotated, and assigned to team members for further investigation and resolution. RFI's in Doc Set Manager are generated with links back to the original clouds. These RFI's can be tracked within Doc Set Manager or shared with project information management solutions like Newforma and CMiC via the agcXML schema for transactional data. Until an RFI has been marked resolved, all clouds associated with the RFI are automatically copied up to the newest version of the document. And all reports are available for printing and sharing.

"With all the well-deserved interest in BIM solutions, it's important to remember that 2D documentation serves as the contractual record for building projects," stated Mark Sawyer, CEO and President of Vico Software. "Many executives share with me their concern about missing a change that invalidates the cost plan and project schedule until it's too late. Finding and quickly resolving the changes in 2D document sets makes the benefits of 3D, 4D, and 5D BIM possible."

Vico Software offers Project Team Licensing options that allow users to invite general contractors, subs, architects, and owners to participate in the collaborative review, assignments, and resolution. A single user license of Vico Doc Set Manager starts at USD $1,895.
