Video Chat Platform Paltalk Helps Oxfam Fight Poverty With Donations Raised From Virtual Gifts

Money Raised From Paltalk's "Biggest Gifter" Contest From the Exchange of Virtual Gifts and Stickers Donated to Oxfam to Help End Poverty and Injustice

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - January 12, 2015) - Paltalk, the popular group video chat platform, has announced that it will donate portions of its "Biggest Gifter" contest, in which Paltalk users from around the world throughout the month of December exchanged virtual gifts on the platform, to Oxfam, one of the world's leading international aid agencies working in over 90 countries to right the wrongs of poverty, hunger, and injustice.

The funds were raised through the purchase of a variety of virtual gifts, stickers, and "nicks" (nicknames) that can be used and shared on Paltalk's platform, which allows an unlimited number of individuals to group video chat with one another from any computer or mobile device. Participants received daily prizes and the top five winners received a gold "nick" for one month.

Notable stats from the "Biggest Gifter" contest:

  • 292,348: Number of gifts sent on Paltalk during contest period
  • 27,202,925: Number of credits spent
  • 10,741,700: Number of credits spent by top 100 gifters during contest period

The month-long promotion engaged Paltalk's strong global community of over 2.2 million active users, with the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and more joining the United States as areas who contributed the most gifts during the promotional period.

"This promotion truly conveyed how much of a community exists within Paltalk from users all over the world, and how it can be mobilized to help fight a global issue like poverty," said Eric Sackowitz, COO of Paltalk. "Whether they're in South Dakota or Saudi Arabia, Paltalk users have shown time and time again to not only show interest in chatting and sharing online currency with likeminded individuals, but also contribute to such an important issue."

Prior to the "Biggest Gifter" contest benefiting Oxfam, Paltalk raised money from more than 20,000 users around the world for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation over the course of October, which was Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Paltalk plans to continue partnering with other non-profit organizations that deal with causes addressed in its rooms based on the success of this promotion.
