Viking Minerals Acquires 16 Claims Adjacent to the Victoria Copper Mine in the Dolly Varden District in Northeast, Nevada-the World's Third Most Prolific Mining Region

PHOENIX, ARIZONA--(Marketwire - June 1, 2011) - VIKING MINERALS INC. (OTCBB:VKML) ( announces the acquisition of 16 claims in the Dolly Varden district in Elko County, North East Nevada – the world's third most prolific mining region.

The 16 claim property is adjacent to the Victoria Mine, which operated in the 1970's and 1980's producing over 24 million pounds of copper as well as the Dolly Varden Property which was a gold and copper producing mine.

A review of previously conducted geological mapping, systematic rock sampling and Induce Polarization (IP) geophysical surveying is planned to define drill sites on the identified targets on this copper and gold property. These targets were originally identified by Noranda Explorations in the 1980's and again by Atna Resources in the early 2000's – but were not followed pursued due to poor global market conditions for copper at the time.

The Dolly Varden area is recognized as a classic eastern Great Basin district with base and precious metals associated with upper Paleozoic sediments intruded by Cretaceous auriferous magmas, which is a similar geological setting to the Battle Mountain skarn gold type of deposit. The South Dally Varden Claims, have reported significant values of copper (up to 1.3%) and gold (up to 4.27 grams per ton), in grab samples, related to gold-copper porphyry and/or skarn system associated with felsic intrusive dykes. The related wide spread alteration related to these gold and copper values are potential targets for advanced exploration and development.

"We are excited about the potential of our property. With its location in Elko County, which is a prolific mining area, and based on the results of our grab samples to date, we are very optimistic that our property will be an important one", stated Charles Irizarry, President and CEO of Viking Minerals.

Two of the most noteworthy mines include the Robinson Mine which is an open pit copper and gold mine that has operated continuously since 2005 producing averagely 121 to 126 million pounds per year of copper. And the Bingham Canyon Mine, which is the world's largest open pit mine and has produced more copper than any other mine in history – approximately 14.5 million.

Viking Minerals is engaged in the acquisition and development of near-term producing copper, gold and silver properties in the United States and Canada. Viking is focusing on developing its Dolly Varden properties in northeastern Nevada, adjacent to the Victoria Copper mine.
