Vint Cerf, 2013 Future in Review Conference Centerpiece Guest, Awarded Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering

FRIDAY HARBOR, WA--(Marketwired - Jul 2, 2013) - Vint Cerf -- Google VP and Chief Internet Evangelist, Strategic News Service (SNS) member, and honored subject of an SNS Future in Review (FiRe) 2013 Centerpiece Conversation -- has been awarded the prestigious inaugural Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering. Cerf and fellow recipients Robert Kahn, Marc Andreessen, Sir Tim Berners-Lee, and Louis Pouzin were awarded the 1 million-pound prize for the world-improving impact of "their pioneering work developing [the] Internet."

At the June 25th ceremony at Buckingham Palace, Lord Broers, chair of the judges' panel, said: "Engineering is, by its very nature, a collaborative activity, and the emergence of the Internet and the Web involved many teams of people all over the world. However, these five visionary engineers, never before honored together as a group, led the key developments that shaped the Internet and Web as a coherent system and brought them into public use."

Cerf has been Google's Chief Internet Evangelist since 2005. The former Chair of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), Vint is the co-designer of the TCP/IP protocols. He and his colleague Robert Kahn were awarded the U.S. National Medal of Technology in 1997, the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005, and the 2004 ACM Alan M. Turing award, considered the "Nobel Prize of Computer Science."

Future in Review is an annual gathering of world-class thought leaders in technology and economics, convened each year with the goals of providing the best look forward in these fields, and of using technology to solve major world challenges.
