Virgin Technologies Antennas Provide Vital Links for Emergency First Responders

EDMONTON, AB--(Marketwired - February 03, 2015) - Virgin Technologies Inc., a leader in manufacturing auto-aiming satellite antenna systems, recently partnered with the Town of Canmore's Fire-Rescue Department, providing a dedicated satellite antenna to its custom emergency response trailer. The trailer was mounted with Virgin's auto-aiming Ku 1.2 meter antenna, providing the mountain town with a vital link to the outside world in the event of an emergency.

In the summer of 2013, after spring flooding put much of the Town of Canmore and Southern Alberta underwater, communication was cut off to the town and a state of emergency was declared. The lessons learned from that emergency event proved how important maintaining a dedicated communications link via satellite is to first responders in the time of an emergency. "The satellite antenna system Virgin provided to our department installs confidence that in the event of an emergency, we will still have a critical communications link for our community. Moreover, the system is built for extreme environments and is easy-to-use; it is designed for an end user and is an extremely well built and we are really pleased with it. The professional service that we experienced was next to none and we look forward to working with Virgin to supply our satellite communication needs," notes Town of Canmore Chief Todd Sikorsky.

Virgin Technologies currently provides its satellite antennas systems to a host of regional and national customers, including many emergency response units, as well as to national defence agencies, fire departments and police departments. "Many of our emergency response customers have learned the hard way that while cellular communication is obviously great, satellite technology provides the only true fail safe communication in any situation," notes Virgin Technologies President Robert Smibert.

Since Virgin Technologies manufactures its own products and owns and operates its own iDirect teleport, it can offer such advanced technologies at price points that can work with often squeezed municipal, town and city budgets. "We own our own teleport service, meaning we can scale our pricing for internet and phone service to the satellite antennas system in a way that fits the particular needs of our customer base," notes Smibert. "Ultimately, while satellite communication has hard costs associated with it, the upside is that our customers know they are prepared when they need communication most, and lives are stake."
