Virtual Volunteering: BMO Financial Group Provides Employees With Remote Volunteering Opportunities

BMO Partners With Naperville-Based Community Career Center on Innovative Remote Volunteering Program

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - Jun 4, 2013) - BMO Financial Group today announced that it is introducing innovative remote volunteering projects to provide greater access for its U.S.-based employees to participate in its annual BMO Volunteer Day on June 5th.

Approximately 5,600 BMO employees across the U.S. and Canada will be volunteering in communities at more than 470 organizations, and one option for employee participation is to do so remotely.

Similar to a program recently announced in Canada, BMO is partnering with Naperville-based Community Career Center, which serves over 1800 job seekers each year, to provide BMO employees with a remote volunteering opportunity. BMO volunteers will be providing mock telephone interviews to Community Career Center clients who need to brush up on their interviewing skills. The format is relatively simple -- it's a simulated interview, over the phone, and the volunteers are provided with questions to ask and suggestions on how to provide helpful feedback.

"The majority of job seekers will encounter a phone screening interview during their search and it is a critical point in their success," said Becky Brillon, Program Director, Community Career Center. "When a candidate is not offered a second interview following a phone screening the job seeker rarely receives a reason or feedback. These practice sessions with BMO's employees are instrumental to helping our people improve their chances of finding employment."

"We could all use a little interview practice from time to time, and our volunteers are ready, willing and able to make that happen," said Julie Curran, Regional President, BMO Harris Bank. "It's still a relatively tough job market, and strong interview skills are as important as ever, and that's why we're so very proud to volunteer our time to help prepare job candidates for some of the most important conversations of their lives."
