Vishay Intertechnology Introduces Industry's First Ten-Turns Hall Effect Sensor, Available With Servo or Bushing Mounts

34 THE Offers All Electrical Angles up to 3600 Deg., Linearity Down to 0.5 %, and Long Life to 50 Million Cycles

MALVERN, PA--(Marketwire - December 9, 2010) - Vishay Intertechnology Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today released the industry's first multi-turn sensor featuring non-contacting technology. The ten-turns 34 THE Hall effect sensor is available with servo or bushing mounts and is optimized for applications in harsh environments requiring long-life sensors.

The Hall effect technology of the new 34 THE gives it the ability to perform in conditions involving high-frequency vibrations up to 20 G and shocks up to 50 G. The 34 THE offers a very long life of 50 million cycles with a servo mount and 10 million cycles with a bushing mount, which is at least 10x longer than wirewound multi-turn sensors. The long life of the device makes it ideal for servo control of steering wheels in marine and off-road applications.

Vishay can provide any specific angle upon customer request inside the limit of 3,600° maximum, and various output signal types depending on customer requirements. The sensor features accurate linearity down to 0.5 %. Available with single and redundant signals, the size 09 (22.2 mm) device features analog, PWM, or SPI output, and provides continuous performance for the life of the device with no drift of linearity.

The sensor offers a supply voltage of 5 V, with other values available upon request, and a supply current of less than 16 mA for single signals and less than 32 mA for redundant signals. The 34 THE offers + 20 V overvoltage protection and -- 10 V reverse voltage protection. The recommended load resistance is 1 kilohm for analog output and PWM output. The device is compliant to RoHS directive 2002/95/EC.

Samples of the 34 THE are available now. Production quantities will be available in Q1 2011, with lead times of 10 weeks for large orders. Follow Hall effect sensors from Vishay at
