Visionstate Inc.: Restroom Application to Revolutionize the Way Washrooms Are Cleaned and Monitored

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - April 4, 2012) - For as long as public bathrooms have been in existence, so too has the paper-based system of cleaning and monitoring the facilities. For anyone who has ever used a public washroom before, the white piece of paper pinned to the washroom wall provides little comfort when there is no toilet paper in the stall.

All that is about to change with Visionstate's new WANDA application, which is an acronym for washroom attendant and digital advertising network. This innovative technology, which was recently installed at Calgary's new CrossIron Mills Shopping Centre, replaces the traditional method of washroom maintenance with a 17-inch industrial touchscreen mounted at the entrance to the washrooms.

Using the touchscreen, staff can now log in and record cleaning activities, including what actions were performed and the amount of resources used. Facility management receives emails flagging this activity once performed, eliminating the need for on-site washroom inspections to ensure cleaning duties have been performed.

The touchscreen is also integrated with a motion sensor that enables facility management to monitor traffic into the washrooms and dispatch staff if and when required.

While in "static" mode, or when the screen is not being used, it prominently displays the time and date and the last time the washroom was cleaned. At the bottom of the screen patrons are invited to flag any maintenance issues simply by activating a button to flag management for virtually any washroom concern, including emergencies. Management is immediately notified through email to their smartphones and can then dispatch staff as required. A third section of the screen is dedicated to branding and advertising opportunities.

"The WANDA application represents a significant advancement in the monitoring and maintenance of washrooms," said Visionstate CEO John Putters. "Nothing like this exists in the market today, and yet public washrooms are critical to delivering exceptional customer service. It is almost disappointing walking into a newly renovated washroom only to see the same white piece of paper hanging on the wall."

The WANDA screens are installed in the busiest washrooms at CrossIron Mills shopping centre, starting with the Food Court. The application uses a web-based content management system to manage the screen and gain access to reporting. The application can also be scaled to 12, 15 and 21 inch screens and comes with an optional wireless people counter.

So far response to the new innovation is strong. "We installed WANDA only a few weeks ago and already we have interest from other shopping centres, airports and other large facilities," Putters adds.

Visionstate is a leader in delivering interactive technology. Running on the Company's powerful content management system that is specifically designed for touchscreen applications, the software can be used in diverse settings, including recreation centers, schools, shopping centers, washrooms and food courts to name a few.
