VitalWare and DCBA Form a Strategic Partnership to Create Next Generation CDI Technology

YAKIMA, WA and ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwired - Oct 8, 2013) - VitalWare™, the leader in healthcare intelligence for coding and documentation, has partnered with Atlanta based clinical documentation experts, DCBA, to create a next generation, web-based clinical documentation improvement tool, CDiDocuMint™. A combination of DCBA's CDiTrax™ and VitalWare's iDocuMint™, CDiDocuMint will be the first-to-market clinical documentation improvement (CDI) tool using a dynamic query and tracking methodology.

iDocuMint is an automated, dynamic documentation system powered by Sherpa, VitalWare's Physician Documentation Ontology™ (PDO) engine. Built by physicians for physicians, the cutting-edge, proprietary, concept-based ontology for medical documentation represents over three years of development. Sherpa was designed to bridge the gaps between today's documentation practices and the documentation requirements needed to ensure accurate, specific and complete code assignment using ICD-10. iDocuMint, powered by Sherpa, enhances and simplifies the documentation process for physicians.

CDiTrax tracks the results and outcomes of concurrent documentation review and implemented improvement processes, using a unique methodology to gather case specific information pertaining to cases reviewed, clarifications/queries issued, provider responsiveness and overall outcomes of cases reviewed.

"We believe that Dr. Gold and the DCBA team are industry experts in providing clinical documentation improvement services," expressed Kerry Martin, CEO of VitalWare. "DCBA's years of experience make them a perfect partner to address the documentation challenges that ICD-10 will present to the physicians and hospitals. CDiDocuMint, the culmination of CDiTrax and iDocuMint, will assist in alleviating documentation deficits between what physicians describe and what coders need to accurately code and bill medical services under ICD-10. CDiDocuMint will improve physician productivity by guiding physicians to document any missing concepts."

"I want to help the physicians express in words what a coder needs so they can take those words and express them in codes that tell the story of the patient," explained Dr. Robert Gold, Co-Founder and CEO of DCBA. "Partnering with VitalWare and leveraging Sherpa through iDocuMint with CDiTrax allows for better, complete clinical documentation in a more deployable method."

"Until now, there has been no aid for the physician in practice to determine the appropriate documentation requirements, based on clinical algorithms, for assignment of ICD codes. With the increased need for specificity for code assignment, the need to validate complexity of decision making, and the representation of the holistic view of the patient for each encounter, now is the perfect time to bring our combined solution to market. With iDocumint's ability to meet the doctor's needs, whether in the hospital, in the office or even at the beach, the unwieldy models of drop down menus that don't assist in giving direction for the clinician should become obsolete."

CDiTrax combined with iDocuMint will create a next generation, web-based clinical documentation improvement tool to facilitate complete documentation, querying, tracking and reporting. VitalWare has more than 15 years' experience successfully building, deploying and supporting web-based healthcare IT software and will deliver this solution as a SaaS (Software as a Service) model, making it more deployable than traditional installed solutions.
