Viterra Hosts Annual Meeting for Shareholders

REGINA, SASKATCHEWAN--(Marketwire - March 11, 2009) - Viterra (TSX:VT) held its annual meeting of common shareholders today in Regina, Saskatchewan. As part of the formal business of the meeting, shareholders voted to re-elect nine directors to the Board and to elect one new director, Mr. Tim Hearn. Deloitte & Touche LLP was re-appointed as the Company's auditor.

Viterra's ten member Board consists of the following:

- Mr. Thomas Birks, Chairman, joined Viterra's Board of Directors in March 2005 and was elected Chair in April 2008. He is the President of Birinco Inc., a small merchant bank with investment portfolios ranging from private equity to passive investments. His Board experience is diverse, having served as a member of numerous corporations, educational institutions, hospitals and foundations. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from McGill University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Mr. Birks serves on Viterra's Nominating/Corporate Governance Committee.

- Mr. Vic Bruce has been a Director since 2002. He operates a family farm at Tuxford, Saskatchewan, specializing in pedigreed seed production. Mr. Bruce is a graduate of the Canadian Agricultural Lifetime Leadership Program (CALL) and holds a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Calgary, majoring in Economics. He is a member of Viterra's Compensation and Nominating/Corporate Governance Committees.

- Mr. Thomas Chambers joined Viterra's Board in June 2006. He is an experienced professional accountant, senior executive, corporate director and business advisor, most notably having served for 26 years as a Partner in senior management roles with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. He is a graduate of the Directors Education Program of Corporate Directors. Mr. Chambers acts as Chair of the Audit Committee and serves on Viterra's Compensation Committee.

- Ms. Bonnie DuPont has been a Director since March 2008. She is a Group Vice-President with Enbridge Inc. in Calgary and holds a Bachelors degree (Great Distinction) with a focus in Program Administration & Evaluation and Psychology from the University of Regina. She earned her Masters degree at the University of Calgary. Ms. DuPont currently serves on Viterra's Compensation and Nominating/Corporate Governance Committees.

- Mr. T.J. (Tim) Hearn joined Viterra's Board of Directors in May 2008. He retired from Imperial Oil Limited in 2008, where he was the Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer since 2002. Mr. Hearn is a graduate of the University of Manitoba and sits on Viterra's Audit Committee.

- Mr. Dallas Howe has been a Director since March 2005. He is the owner and Chief Executive Officer of DSTC Ltd., a technology investment company. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Masters in Mathematics from the University of Saskatchewan. Mr. Howe is Chair of Viterra's Compensation Committee and serves on its Nominating/Corporate Governance Committee.

- Mr. Harold Milavsky joined Viterra's Board of Directors in 2003. He is presently the Chairman and Director of Quantico Capital Corp. and is the former Chairman and CEO of Trizec Corporation. Mr. Milavsky holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan and has Honorary Doctorates of Laws from both the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Calgary. He is the Chair of Viterra's Nominating/Corporate Governance Committee.

- Mr. Herb Pinder, Jr. has served on Viterra's Board of Directors since 2003. He is the President of the Goal Group of Companies, based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, which provides corporate governance and investment management services, with a particular focus on oil and gas private equity. A non-practicing lawyer, Mr. Pinder holds an MBA from Harvard Business School. He currently sits on Viterra's Nominating/Corporate Governance Committee.

- Larry Ruud joined Viterra's Board of Directors in March 2008 and serves on its Audit Committee. He is a partner with Meyers Norris Penny LLP and provides farm management consulting services in Alberta and B.C. He owns and manages a farm south of Vermilion, Alberta. Mr. Ruud holds a Masters of Science Degree in Agricultural Economics and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Alberta. Mr. Ruud was recently appointed President and CEO of One Earth Farms Corporation.

- Mr. Mayo Schmidt, Viterra's President and Chief Executive Officer, has served on Viterra's Board of Directors since March 2005. He joined the Company in 2000 and led the strategic and highly disciplined acquisition of Agricore United in May 2007. Mr. Schmidt is a member of the C.D. Howe Institute, Vice-Chair of The Conference Board of Canada and a member of The Conference Board Inc., USA. He serves on the Applied Portfolio Management Advisory Board for the Washburn University School of Business. Mr. Schmidt earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from Washburn University and was honoured as Washburn's 2003 Alumni Fellow.

Viterra acknowledged the contributions of past Chairman and Director Terry Baker and Directors Ryan Anderson and Doug Kitchen, who over the years have been integral to the ongoing success of Viterra. Mr. Baker was Chair between 2004 and 2008, Mr. Kitchen served as Vice-Chairman of the Board between 2003 and 2006, and Mr. Ryan Anderson served as a Director since 1998.
