Viterra Investing Over $34m in Alberta Grain Handling Network

REGINA, SASKATCHEWAN--(Marketwired - Nov. 5, 2013) - Viterra, Canada's grain industry leader, is pleased to announce it intends to invest over $34 million into its Alberta elevator network through two upcoming projects.

The first is the construction of a new high throughput grain terminal near Grimshaw, Alberta. The concrete facility will be developed with a 104 railcar loading capability and approximately 30,000 tonnes of grain storage. Preliminary site work is planned to start this fall.

The construction of this facility will be the second recent new grain terminal built by Viterra in northwest Alberta. In 2010, Viterra opened its state of the art elevator in Sexsmith, Alberta.

The second project involves the expansion of Viterra's grain terminal in Grassy Lake, Alberta. Storage capacity will increase by 14,000 tonnes to 36,500 tonnes, along with operational improvements to increase logistical flexibility and efficiency.

Kyle Jeworski, Viterra's President and CEO for North America said, "By strengthening our significant presence in Alberta, we are delivering on our commitment to provide our customers with superior service backed by industry leading assets. Our reinvestment in these targeted areas will accommodate increased farmer deliveries and facilitate higher and more efficient throughput."

This is the latest in a series of infrastructure improvements by Viterra. In May, the company announced that it is investing more than $20 million to upgrade four of its Saskatchewan grain terminals at White Star, Humboldt, Waldron and Ituna. It has also recently completed similar expansions at Gull Lake, SK and Fairlight, SK.
