VML Insurance Programs Engages Company Nurse for "Day of Injury" Workers' Compensation Services

Injury Reporting, Medical Triage, and RTW Program Aims to Improve Care and Service to Virginia Public Employees

SCOTTSDALE, AZ--(Marketwire - June 17, 2008) - Local government agencies and municipalities strive to provide employees with the best possible response to on-the-job injuries. Toward this objective, Company Nurse, the premier independent provider of nurse medical triage and injury management programs, today announced that it will provide VML Insurance Programs with innovative "day of injury" workers' compensation services.

The "day of injury" represents the earliest, most critical point at which organizations can impact employees' medical care and satisfaction with the workers' compensation process -- as well as improve claims costs and outcomes. As a result, Company Nurse offers comprehensive "day of injury" services, which include 1) a toll-free nurse call center to facilitate timely, accurate reporting of injuries, 2) nurse medical expertise to triage injuries to the most appropriate, cost-effective level of care, and 3) a structured, systematic return-to-work (RTW) database to transition employees back to work.

VML Insurance Programs manages a workers' compensation pool for Virginia local governments, as well as providing eight additional lines of coverage. "In workers' compensation, our main objective is to provide optimal service to our members and their injured workers," said P. Steven Craig, Managing Director of VML Insurance Programs. "Company Nurse will ensure each employee injury receives the care and treatment appropriate to its level of medical severity. Their trained triage nurses will channel employees to our quality panels of physicians, and their RTW NOW program will help us get employees back to work safely and quickly, by utilizing transitional assignments that accommodate work restrictions."

"A key advantage to our 'day of injury' services is that employees receive a highly personalized and compassionate response to their worksite injuries," said Paul Binsfeld, CEO of Company Nurse. "Our nurses listen closely to the nature of each injury and focus on employees' unique medical needs. After speaking with our nurses, employees express an overwhelmingly positive experience with the workers' compensation process and typically do not request or require additional medical services. As a result, organizations have reduced workers' compensation costs by as much as 10 to 30 percent."

Due to the significant benefits delivered to employees and the cost savings provided to employers, Company Nurse has experienced phenomenal success, growing 290 percent over the past three years.
