Vocational Rehabilitation: Helping Canadian Forces Veterans Overcome Disabilities and Achieve Career Goals

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 21, 2009) - The Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs, today announced that CanVet VR Services has been contracted to provide the vocational components of Veterans Affairs Canada's broader Rehabilitation Program. The three-year contract, the result of a competitive bidding process managed by Public Works and Government Services Canada, is valued at approximately $20 million.

"Our Government provides important services and benefits to the men and women who have sacrificed so much to serve this country," said Minister Thompson. "The Rehabilitation Program is a key part of helping Veterans and their families return to civilian life as quickly as possible by providing them with the support they need."

Veterans Affairs Canada's Rehabilitation Program, an integral part of the New Veterans Charter, offers medical, psycho-social and vocational services that can restore the ability of CF members and Veterans to function in the home, community and workplace.

CF members releasing for medical reasons and Veterans with a service-related injury or illness may be eligible for rehabilitation services. In certain cases, spouses, common-law partners and survivors may also access vocational services.

Following the New Veterans Charter's implementation in 2006, Veterans Affairs Canada engaged interim vocational rehabilitation service providers. This new contract will provide a consistent level of service across Canada in an efficient and effective manner.

CanVet VR Services is a joint venture comprised of three well-respected vocational rehabilitation providers: WCG International HR Solutions, Innovative Rehabilitation Consultants and March of Dimes Canada. With more than 40 years of combined experience providing comprehensive vocational rehabilitation services, CanVet VR Services brings together a national network of service providers and vocational rehabilitation experts to ensure the best support for Veterans and their families on behalf of Veterans Affairs Canada.
