Vodafone UK Deploys 724 Solutions' X-treme Mobility Gateway; Production Deployment of a Linux Blade Gateway

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.--(CCNMatthews - Jul 18, 2005) -

724 Solutions (NASDAQ:SVNX) (TSX:SVN), a leading provider of next-generation IP-based network and data services, today announced that Vodafone in the United Kingdom has deployed 724's X-treme Mobility Gateway (XMG) to power Vodafone live! entertainment and information offerings throughout the UK. The signing of this agreement was previously disclosed on September 28, 2004.

Vodafone UK sought to drive down operational costs of running data services and implement an architecture that allowed agility as services and standards evolved in the ever-changing world of data services. 724 Solutions deployed a solution that significantly reduced the cost per data transaction, enabling network consolidation and flexibility for current and future data services, while ensuring a level of availability on par with its voice network.

Vodafone UK commercially launched the first XMG based services in March 2005. Vodafone live! customers can browse for free and only have to pay when they choose to purchase downloads such as games, music, ringtones or subscribe to specific services such as Premiership football highlights or film reviews.

XMG's unique component based architecture also allows Vodafone UK to simplify its network and introduce new data services quickly to market as demands change, moving away from complex vertical silos of data infrastructure. XMG supports multiple access interfaces from a common platform and is built upon horizontal reusable components. Vodafone UK also deployed 724 Solutions' X-treme MMS Accelerator (XMA) solution to simplify and optimize their third party bulk application-to-person MMS delivery infrastructure.

"Vodafone's innovative vision of a complete suite of lifestyle services through Vodafone live! leads the industry," said John Sims, Chief Executive Officer of 724 Solutions. "Delivering solutions that lower the cost of ownership and simplify network deployment will enable Vodafone to keep up the rapid pace of this innovation, and continue to give their subscribers the most relevant and personalized data services."

The Mobile Data Association (MDA), who tracks the total numbers of Mobile Internet WAP page impressions sent on behalf of four UK GSM operators on a monthly basis, forecasts that by the end of 2005, WAP page impressions in the UK will reach 15 billion.

XMG is a globally deployed open and secure, massively scalable, highly fault-tolerant mobile internet WAP 1.X/2.0 gateway proven in geographically distributed environments, providing seamless inter- and intra- site fail over, resulting in continuous availability of services to subscribers. XMG allows mobile network operators to offer their subscribers premium content data services including sending and downloading photos, color graphics, audio, music clips, ring tones, games and video clips.
