Voices of a Grateful Nation and Soldiers' Angels Call on Guitar Players Nationwide to Help Reclaim Guinness World Record™ for Largest Guitar Ensemble

Record-Breaking Attempt to Be Held at Texas State Capitol on March 20th; Proceeds Benefit Music Programs for U.S. Veterans and Active Duty Servicemen and Women Suffering From Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI)

AUSTIN, TX and SAN ANTONIO, TX--(Marketwire - January 19, 2011) - Dubbed as "Pickin' for the Record," Voices of a Grateful Nation (http://voicesofagratefulnation.org) and Soldiers' Angels (http://soldiersangels.org), nonprofit organizations that support the needs of U.S. veterans and active duty servicemen and women, are calling on all guitar players to join its quest to reclaim the Guinness World Record for the largest guitar ensemble. The record-breaking attempt will be held at the Texas State Capitol on March 20th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the last day of South by Southwest Music Conference in Austin, Texas.

Guitarists interested in participating are requested to pre-register online at http://voicesofagratefulnation.org/picker. They can also register onsite on the day of the event. Registration fee costs $15.00 per guitarist, which includes admission, event T-shirt and dog tags. More important, proceeds will benefit the Yamaha Music & Wellness Institute, which helps veterans and active duty military personnel suffering from brain injuries and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) through music programs. Music therapy has been clinically proven to alleviate symptoms related to TBI and PTSD.

"In 2009, we broke the Guinness world record for largest guitar ensemble in Luckenbach, TX and raised thousands of dollars to start helping injured veterans returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan," said Charles Gallagher, co-founder of Voices of a Grateful Nation. "This time we are calling on 8,000 guitarists to reclaim the record as well as raise the much needed funding for Soldiers' Angels and the Yamaha Music & Wellness Institute programs." The current record set in Poland stands at 6,346 guitarists.

The song "Pickin' for the Record" participants will be playing to break the record is "This Land Is Your Land." The event, which is open to the general public (non-participants), can enjoy music performances by various artists from 1pm to 4pm. The record breaking attempt is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
