VOICES Heard Loud and Clear at College Public Speaking Competition

Seneca, Humber and Centennial Colleges Showcased

TORONTO, ON--(Marketwired - March 31, 2015) - Winners were announced today at VOICES, a Toronto-based intercollegiate public speaking competition. Twelve students from Seneca, Humber and Centennial College interpreted the theme of Be the Change. Topics ranged from organ donation, climate change and education.

First place was awarded to Jack Hughes, a Seneca College student who delivered a speech on how change is selfish. Second place was awarded to Tuktuk Islam, another Seneca College student who delivered a speech on personal change and self-improvement. "I don't think there is ever a moment where you don't use public speaking," said Tuktuk Islam, a finalist of VOICES 2015. "From job interviews to meetings, you are using it in some form or another every day. It helps build confidence."

Third place was awarded to David McKenzie, a Humber College student who delivered a speech on choosing change.

"Not a lot of these students will ever get a platform to be able to share their thoughts, share their views and this was such a perfect platform for them," said Colin D'Mello, CTV News reporter and one of the judges of VOICES 2015. "They were all very well-spoken and very engaging. Everything that they spoke about seemed to come from a place of personal significance, which I thought really made their speeches that much more impactful."

All three winners received a copy of Jeff Ansell's book; When the Headline is You - An Insider's Guide to Handling the Media. First place was awarded with a Get the Job course with one-on-one coaching with Roxanne Cramer from CCi Search and CCC Academy. Second place earned custom designed business cards by Swerve Design Group. Third place received a subscription to www.lynda.com.

The four judges who selected this year's winners were: Colin D'Mello, CTV News; Cathy Cowan, Cowan & Company; Jeff Ansell, Jeff Ansell & Associates Inc.; and Shannon Skinner, CCi Search and CCC Academy.
