Voix d'ailleurs: Quebecor Presents Part 2 of Solo Exhibition by Quebec Painter Louis Boudreault

MONTRÉAL, QUÉBEC--(Marketwired - Feb. 2, 2015) - Quebecor is proud to present the work of internationally renowned Québec painter Louis Boudreault to a wide audience. The Voix d'ailleurs exhibit, part 2 of a major 3-part show dedicated to Boudreault's work, will be held from February 2 to April 17, 2015 at the Quebecor gallery located in the Corporation's head office building on Saint-Jacques St. in Montréal. The exhibition is open to all.

"We are honoured to hang canvasses by a Québec artist of such stature in the lobby of our head office. The Voix d'ailleurs exhibition provides a unique opportunity to admire the artistry of painter who shows his work around the world, an opportunity none of us should miss," said Pierre Dion, President and CEO of Quebecor. "The Quebecor gallery is proud to showcase talented Québec artists. Spreading our culture is a mission to which Quebecor is deeply committed. I wish all visitors an enriching and pleasurable experience!"

Following up on the Voix d'ici exhibit, which featured 22 portraits of eminent Quebecers, Voix d'ailleurs consists of 22 portraits of world-famous personalities who inspired Boudreault's art and left their mark on modern culture. The subjects of the large-scale paintings include celebrated painters such as Pablo Picasso, Vassily Kandinsky and Andy Warhol, great 20th century vocalists such as Luciano Pavarotti and Maria Callas, and icons such as James Dean, Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley. Most of the 22 canvasses come from a series called Destinées which has been shown in Paris, London, New York and Hong Kong. Voix d'ailleurs was assembled for the Quebecor gallery by curator Esteban Dravet.

Louis Boudreault's evocative portraits show these personalities as children or teens. From his art, there emanates a poetry, a fragility and sometimes a gravity that foreshadows the extraordinary life paths of these towering figures.

Louis Boudreault, a native of the Magdalen Islands, studied literature and theatre before deciding to devote himself entirely to his art. In 1982, he joined the workshop of Édouard Mac'Avoy, the great Parisian master of the portrait, where he learned the discipline required to push a drawing ever further, to paraphrase Mac'Avoy. Louis Boudreault then entered the École du Louvre and completed a Master's degree in art history. True to his passion for that field, he served as an advisor to major art collectors before embarking on a career as a painter in the 1990s. Louis Boudreault regularly exhibits in Europe, North America and Asia.

Since it opened in 2012, the Quebecor gallery has presented works by a dozen Québec artists: Marie-Hélène Parent, Alexandre Castonguay, Maskull Lasserre, Lise-Hélène Larin, Catherine Bolduc, Chris Salter, Guy Larammée, Pascal Dufaux, Jacinthe Carrier, Patrick Beaulieu, Marie-Josée Laframboise, Jérôme Fortin, and of course Louis Boudreault. Quebecor also supports many museums and visual arts organization and events in Québec, including the Board of Montréal Museum Directors, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec and the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal.
