Today, at the Montréal Autoshow, Volkswagen Canada presented a new type of SUV concept, the T-ROC.

The Volkswagen family resemblance is unmistakable on this 2-door concept. The design is fresh and new, and incorporates many unique styling elements.

Smaller than Volkswagen's own Tiguan compact SUV, the T-ROC features easily-removable twin roof panels which, when stowed, give the vehicle an almost convertible-like appeal. The exterior has been sculpted with knife-sharp lines and creases, starting at the bold grill framed by dual-LED headlights and continuing along the profile, which is set off by a wide aluminum trim giving the vehicle a low-to-the-ground look. At the rear, the bold LED lighting theme continues, as does the use of cameras for an all-around perspective which is projected onto a dashboard-mounted tablet.

Inside, all elements are designed to match the off-road character of the T-ROC. Rugged features are designed to be used on the move. Painted and non-slip surfaces alike provide a contrast not unlike those found in the Beetle.

Instrumentation is all digital, the centerpiece being a 12.3" colour display. The infotainment tablet reacts not only to touch, but also to gestures.

The T-ROC is powered by a torque-strong and fuel-efficient 2.0 L TDI Clean Diesel, mated to a 7 speed DSG transmission and Volkswagen's own 4MOTION all-wheel drive system. "Street", "Offroad" and "Snow" modes are driver-selectable to maximize performance in all conditions.

Although presently a concept, the T-ROC clearly points to the styling direction Volkswagen will take with its future SUVs.
