11 days, 17 hours and 22 minutes after starting their journey at the southernmost tip of Argentina, three German adventurers reached their goal at the end of the Panamerica highway at Deadhorse, Alaska in their 2011 Volkswagen Touareg TDI Clean Diesel sport utility on the 13th of July.

Along the way, drivers Rainer Zietlow, Carlos Fernandez and Marius Biela established a new world record for traversing the 25,000 kilometre route, besting the old mark by a full three days.

Their Touareg was up to every challenge along the way. Chosen for its combination of durability, high performance and long range fuel efficiency, the Touareg carried the trio over mountains, and across deserts on a journey that spanned 14 countries, and commemorated the 75th anniversary of the highway. Conditions ranged from blinding sandstorms, snow and untold amounts of mud. The team's website, www.tdi-panamericana.com, followed their progress throughout the drive.

On Monday, August 15th at 11:00 a.m., Rainer Zietlow, the organizer of this adventure will be visiting the Canadian Headquarters of Volkswagen Canada in Ajax, Ontario to show a video of his trip, and to discuss the ups and downs of the long road he faced.

Members of the media are welcome to attend Mr. Zietlow's presentation in Ajax. Please contact Thomas Tetzlaff.
