Voter Information in Mail to Electors for Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River, Toronto Centre, Vancouver Quadra and Willowdale By-elections

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 20, 2008) - The Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Marc Mayrand, announced today that a personalized voter information card is being mailed to each elector whose name appears on the list of electors in Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River (Saskatchewan), Toronto Centre (Ontario), Vancouver Quadra (British Columbia) and Willowdale (Ontario), where federal by-elections are now underway. Registered electors in these electoral districts should receive their voter information cards by Wednesday, February 27, 2008.

"The card indicates the address at which you are registered, and the address and hours of the polling station where you can vote, either in advance or on election day," said Mr. Mayrand. "It's a good idea to take your card with you when you go to vote. It is not an identification document, but it will give you quicker access to your polling station."

An elector who does not receive a voter information card by Wednesday, February 27, 2008, or who receives a card with incorrect information, may contact the local Elections Canada office to correct the information or to make a request to be added to the voters list before Tuesday, March 11, 2008, by 6:00 p.m. (local time). Electors who for any other reason need to make changes to their name or address on the voters list should do so by calling the local Elections Canada office. An elector who receives a card for a deceased person or someone unknown at that address should also contact the local Elections Canada office.

An elector who does not wish to go to a polling station to vote, either in advance or on election day, who needs the services of an interpreter when voting, or who requires level access at a polling station where this is not offered, should contact the local Elections Canada office to find out what options are available.

Residents of Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River, Toronto Centre, Vancouver Quadra and Willowdale may vote if they are Canadian citizens and are at least 18 years old on election day, Monday, March 17, 2008. They must also have their place of ordinary residence in the electoral district from the first day of the revision period on Wednesday, February 13, 2008, until election day. A person may have only one ordinary residence and may vote only once.

The office address and phone number of the local Elections Canada office are shown on the voter information card. This information can also be found at www.elections.ca.
