Voyager Capital Expands West Coast Franchise With Addition of Portland Office

Seasoned Technology Strategist Diane Fraiman Joins as Venture Partner With Focus on Software and Digital Media Investments in the Pacific Northwest

MENLO PARK, CA--(Marketwire - August 13, 2008) - Continuing the expansion of its franchise, Voyager Capital, a leading West Coast venture capital firm, today announced that it has opened an office in Portland, Oregon in the Blagen Block building in Old Town. In addition to its new location, the firm has added seasoned technology strategist Diane Fraiman as a Venture Partner to focus on Internet, software and digital media investments in the Pacific Northwest, particularly in Oregon.

"While we've been actively investing in the Portland market since 2000, we've decided to establish an on-the-ground presence in the market due to an increasing level of entrepreneurial activity in the region," said Erik Benson, managing director at Voyager Capital. "Diane has a proven track record of adding value to startups in the disciplines of go-to-market strategies as well as business and ecosystem development. Her leadership and experience will be invaluable as we grow our Portland office."

"My passion is to invest in Portland," said Fraiman. "By joining Voyager, I can accelerate my support of the region's entrepreneurs and keep my finger on the pulse of the great work that is coming out of the universities and early stage companies as the entire Portland ecosystem continues to grow."

Fraiman works with startups in the enterprise software, Internet/Web 2.0, and security software industries throughout the West Coast. Fraiman was previously senior vice president of Marketing and Business Development for Sanctum, a VC-backed startup providing Web application security software (acquired by Watchfire) and vice president of Worldwide Marketing for the database company Informix Software (acquired by IBM), both based in Silicon Valley.

Prior to her move to Silicon Valley, Fraiman was vice president of Marketing for Tektronix (acquired by Danaher) in its Video and Networking Division and a marketing executive with Sequent Computer (acquired by IBM), both based in Oregon. She previously spent 16 years in sales and marketing roles at Digital Equipment Corporation in the U.S., Europe and Asia Pacific.

Fraiman graduated with a bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt University in Biomedical Engineering, and received an Executive MBA from Insead in Fountainebleau, France. She currently lives in Portland.

"Voyager Capital is a leading West Coast venture capital firm that is well positioned to promote the thriving technology climate and inspiring innovation that exists today in Oregon," said David Almodovar, vice president in the Portland office of Credit Suisse responsible for managing the Oregon Investment Fund. "With its new office in Portland, Voyager will continue to bring expertise and best practices of successful technology companies to entrepreneurs in the Oregon startup community."

Voyager Capital recently launched Portland-based Elemental Technologies, and plans to continue to invest in the Oregon market from its current Fund III. Voyager also recently announced the addition of Daniel Ahn as a second managing director based in its Menlo Park, California office; as well as the appointment of Bruce Chizen, former CEO of Adobe Systems, to the firm's Advisory Board. Chizen has also joined the board of directors of Elemental Technologies as an observer.
