VSS Monitoring, Inc. Launches 8x8 Distributed Filter Tap™ for Large Networks

Complex Environments, High Costs and Compliance Requirements Demand Distributed Approach to Network Monitoring Traffic Capture

BURLINGAME, CA--(Marketwire - July 8, 2008) - As part of its focus on providing the world's most innovative network monitoring traffic capture technology, VSS Monitoring, Inc. today introduced the 8x8 Distributed Filter Tap™, giving large organizations a powerful new tool to solve critical network security and performance issues.

The 8x8 Distributed Filter Tap brings a systems architecture design to network traffic capture, delivering visibility and proactive control over even the largest networks, helping increase the performance and ROI of networks and the productivity of the people who run them.

"Data integrity is mission-critical for our Optimise Call Recording solution," said Antony Ryan, Head of Customer Solutions, Magnetic North Software, a worldwide provider of contact center solutions that make organizations more productive and effective in their customer interactions. "The loss of even a small portion of a recorded call for our financial services clients could have significant consequences. VSS Monitoring's distributed traffic capture systems are essential to giving us a complete, selectable, and centralized view of our customer's VoIP networks so that we can deliver the quality and compliance our customers demand."

"The number one challenge facing network administrators and CIOs is the inability to prevent network problems from occurring before they impact end users and affect business productivity," said Bojan Simic, Research Analyst, Telecommunications, at Aberdeen Group. "A distributed traffic capture approach like the one VSS Monitoring has engineered will give users the selective visibility into their networks that they need to proactively control network issues."

"We bring to this $3.5 billion marketplace a fundamentally new distributed traffic capture approach that increases network visibility, reduces response time to security incidents, and offers up to 80 percent cost savings for network monitoring deployments," said VSS Monitoring's CEO, Terence M. Breslin. "Network architects and C-level executives have their hands full dealing with ever larger, more complex environments, as well as with compliance issues, and yet still must rigorously justify technology expenditures. Our universal distributed traffic capture systems give all network monitoring servers the visibility and efficiency required in order to manage these issues effectively while maximizing cost savings."

The 8x8 Distributed Filter Tap provides filtering, aggregation and tapping of 10/100/1000 Ethernet networks across the entire infrastructure via multiple monitor ports. It is designed for networks of growing size and complexity, whose managers face significant and increasing performance demands as well as security and compliance requirements mandated by regulations such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act, and Basel Accords.

The rollout of the new distributed tap sets the stage for the high port density 10-Gigabit filter device from VSS Monitoring slated for release in the third quarter of this year.

Industry's Most Capable Traffic Capture Tools

VSS Monitoring brings high-level intelligence to its Distributed Traffic Capture Systems™, making its products the industry's most capable. VSS Distributed Traffic Capture Systems are the only network taps to combine selective aggregation of network traffic and filtering with high port density, span port capture and a graphical user interface.

The 8x8 Distributed Filter Tap's in-depth filter capability enables screening of monitored traffic to ensure zero packet loss during aggregation as well as providing increased input capacity. Depending on filter size, users may create and store between approximately 50 to 100 filters. Users can apply them as needed before aggregation, after aggregation and via input/output port mapping.

The graphical user interface of the 8x8 Distributed Filter Tap provides remote and local users a quick way to build even complex filters, allowing them to choose from context-sensitive fields and pick lists, as well as permitting the entry of conditional expressions directly. The interface gives users the ability to readily visualize and change filters. Users may also create filters via a command-line interface, such as telnet and serial communication.

The 8x8 Distributed Filter Tap provides eight 10/100/1000 ports for network traffic input and pass-through. In addition, it has four small form-factor pluggable monitor ports and four 10/100/1000 ports for input / output. The flexibility demanded by users is delivered through independent control of each monitor port, which allows users to forward any group of network ports to any monitoring server.

The 8x8 Distributed Filter Tap adds a key forward-looking component to what is already the industry's broadest array of traffic capture technology solutions, encompassing more than 140 aggregation and replicator devices, span port tools, and network taps.

The 8x8 Distributed Filter Tap is available worldwide from VSS Monitoring's channel partners. VSS Monitoring's distributed traffic capture systems are also offered by many analyzer vendors as part of a complete monitoring solution.
