VXi Mourns Passing of Founder and Chairman Dodge Morgan

The Sailor, Journalist and Entrepreneur Was 78

DOVER, NH--(Marketwire - September 29, 2010) -  VXi Corporation, a leading provider of headset solutions, is saddened to announce that founder and Chairman of the Board Dodge Morgan passed away on September 14 due to complications of cancer surgery. The avid sailor and businessman was 78.

Morgan was a pioneer in the headset business, having started UNEX as a division of his company Controlonics in the mid '80s then later founding VXi in 1989.

"Dodge was a fearless maverick, who loved his family, sailing and business while living life to the fullest," said Michael Ferguson, President and CEO at VXi. "We offer our condolences to Dodge's family as we at VXi mourn the loss of a leader, a visionary, a colleague and a friend."

Morgan joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951 serving as a fighter pilot for 5 years. In 1957, he went back to school and graduated magna cum laude from the Boston University School of Journalism. He spent the next 2½ years sailing the Pacific and working in Alaska.

In 1969 he started Controlonics Corp, a communications products manufacturer. The company was founded with three people in a garage in Littleton, MA, and grew to 355 employees and $40 million in revenue. Dodge sold Controlonics to Dynatech Corporation in 1984, giving him the chance to fulfill his life-long dream of sailing around the world.

Morgan is best known for his record-breaking solo circumnavigation, sailing non-stop around the globe in 150 days, 1 hour and 6 minutes. He was the first American and third person ever to accomplish the feat. More recently, Morgan owned two alternative newspapers in Maine championing independent spirit and free speech, The Maine Times and The Casco Bay Weekly.

Morgan is survived by his son Hoyt David Morgan, daughter Kimberley Promise Morgan, and his fiancée Mary Beth Teas. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Dodge David Morgan's name to The Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, MA.
