VXIbus Consortium Meeting at Autotestcon 2006

NIWOT, CO -- (MARKET WIRE) -- November 9, 2006 -- The VXIbus Consortium is set to boost marketing efforts as a result of the yearly meeting at Autotestcon 2006. Consortium members agreed that VXI is thriving as it fills the niche for which it was originally designed. In particular, VXI continues to be ideal for applications that have large scale and complex test requirements. In the upcoming year, the consortium will significantly increase efforts to ensure market awareness of the benefits and availability of VXI-based solutions.

The VXI Consortium met at Autotestcon in September to elect a new set of officers and to set the future direction for the VXI standard. The consensus reached by the consortium is that VXI is a viable platform providing a "time-tested platform you can trust" to support current and future automated test and measurement needs. VXI is an established industry standard with a 19-year history of success, and VXI vendors continue to roll out new products for integration into existing, as well as new systems. The VXI specification, designed by industry-leading vendors and power users, is loaded with features that are optimized for the test and measurement industry. The stability of the platform provides test solutions for customers with long life cycle requirements. Most importantly, VXI is thriving thanks to its large installed base and continued vendor investment.

In the past year alone VXI has experienced significant activity and success. Several large programs have adopted VXI as their main test platform. In addition, many new VXI-based products have been released from companies including Bustec, C&H Technologies, EADS North America Defense Test and Services, KineticSystems, National Instruments, Phase Matrix, Teradyne, VXI Technology, and ZTEC Instruments. The consortium wants to ensure that these new VXI products are widely communicated to the marketplace, and is putting a new marketing program in place, which is supported by the consortium members.

"What people need to realize is that companies have made huge investments in VXI systems," said Nicole Faubert, Marketing Manager of KineticSystems. "While these systems have successfully endured the test of time, requirements for new functionalities arise and drive the need for new products."

With the objective to significantly increase consortium activities, Tom Sarfi of VXI Technology was elected as the new consortium president, Mark Morris of ZTEC Instruments and Keith Abercromby of EADS North America Defense Test and Services were elected as the co-chairs of the marketing working group, and Torsten Rissel of Bustec was elected as the chair of the technical working group.

"The VXI platform has shown a unique ability to integrate new technology while maintaining backward compatibility with previous specification revisions," said Tom Sarfi of VXI Technology and president of the consortium. "Longevity is critical for customers who depend on long-term sustainability of test system designs, particularly in application requirements that demand high-density and high-performance instrumentation. ATE and data acquisition systems implementations continue to utilize the VXI platform and benefit from its core strengths. With multiple vendors investing significant resources in new product development, our customer base is ensured that the platform will remain vital for years to come."

Over the next year the consortium will be stepping up its activities with press releases on new products and applications, updating the VXIbus consortium website, and starting an electronic quarterly newsletter. The consortium will also be reviewing the IEEE-1155 standard and keeping users informed of the technical status of the VXI standard.
