Vyatta Enters 2011 With Powerful Customer and Partner Momentum

Need for On-Demand Networking Drives Continued Market Penetration for Vyatta's Network OS

BELMONT, CA--(Marketwire - February 8, 2011) - Vyatta, the leader in software-based networking for physical, virtual and cloud infrastructures, today announced that in 2010 the company surpassed 1,000 customers and engaged key strategic partnerships supporting the new market requirement for networks to be implemented on-demand. In addition, the Vyatta community grew to over three-quarters of a million global registered users and the company was honored with its third consecutive InfoWorld Bossie Award.

Vyatta's unique ability to deliver a network OS that provides platform independent routing and security across physical, virtual and cloud architectures continues to challenge the old world proprietary box delivery model. Customers like Dell Cloud Services, NEC and Cornell University leveraged Vyatta's high-value model in 2010 and as of October, nearly half of the Fortune 500 had downloaded Vyatta Core, the community version of Vyatta's network OS that is ideal for self-paced evaluation and testing.

GLOBAL INDUSTRY PARTNERS
2010 was also a strong year for Vyatta's partnering activities with the addition of numerous strategic partners. Highlights included:

  • WAN optimization leader Riverbed Technology is now delivering the virtualized Vyatta Network OS pre-loaded on Riverbed® Steelhead® appliances with Riverbed Services Platform enabled.
  • Vyatta collaborated with Citrix and Intel to demonstrate secure cloud onboarding.
  • Vyatta brought open networking to Europe by partnering with leading value-added distributor Zycko.
  • Vyatta partnered with emerging cloud provisioning vendors OpenStack and Cloud.com.
  • NEC Networks and System Integration Corporation tapped Vyatta to provide a virtual networking foundation for its Consolidated Networks Services product offering.
  • Vyatta partnered with HotLava to deliver high-density gigabit and 10 gigabit connectivity for Intel-based platforms.
  • Vyatta announced its first tier 1 telecom provider customer.
  • Vyatta partnered with Sourcefire to deliver advanced IPS functionality to customers.

TECHNOLOGY ADVANCEMENTS
Vyatta continued to update its industry-leading network OS to address the evolving requirements of next generation infrastructures. In March 2010, Vyatta launched Version 6.0, featuring enterprise and cloud networking enhancements including Vyatta's remote access API. Vyatta subsequently launched Version 6.1 in August, featuring IPv6 interoperability, layer 2 bridging for cloud onboarding and enhanced enterprise security.

MARKET-DRIVEN MOMENTUM
Powerful industry trends in 2010 drove this strong adoption of software-based routing:

  • Network Virtualization: Downloads of Vyatta as a virtual machine have grown at a 200% compound annual rate. Cloud computing, as well as infrastructure consolidation in both the datacenter and the network edge, are making virtualized networking a new fundamental requirement.
  • Intel Drives 10Gig: Intel continued its power play in networking performance advancements. The introduction of the quad-core Nehalem architecture in early 2010 produced a 10X performance increase for Vyatta. This advantage was packaged in the Vyatta 3500 series of appliances, taking software-based networking into the 10Gb/s market.

After a successful 2010, Vyatta marches into 2011 with a sharp focus on expectations.

"2011 is the year software-based networking goes mainstream," said Vyatta CEO Kelly Herrell. "Virtualization makes networking requirements move beyond the old hardware-based model, and the heated advancements in cloud computing among enterprise and service providers are driving new network designs that leverage virtualized software-based environments. Vyatta's capabilities in Layer 3 networking and above are unique; this market is changing dramatically and Vyatta is leading the way."
