Vyatta Network OS Extends Virtual Security to Red Hat KVM, Amazon

Vyatta Release 6.3 Delivers Security Improvements, 10GbE Optimization and AWS Cloud and KVM Hypervisor Support

BELMONT, CA--(Marketwire - Aug 23, 2011) - Vyatta, the leader in software-based networking for physical, virtual and cloud infrastructures, today announced the availability of Vyatta Network OS 6.3. This release advances Vyatta's routing, network security and content inspection and expands usage with custom packages for Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud and Red Hat Kernel-Based Virtual Machine (KVM) hypervisors. Vyatta Network OS 6.3 enables enterprises, federal organizations and cloud providers to build and secure complex virtual and physical networks without the need for proprietary hardware.

The latest release of Vyatta's on-demand networking software provides IaaS, PaaS and SaaS networks a way to maintain compliance within KVM-based environments and the Amazon public cloud. Coupled with VMWare ESX and Citrix XenServer support, Vyatta Network OS now delivers a fully optimized enterprise-class networking solution on all of the leading hypervisor offerings available in today's market.

This release also features integrated 10GbE Broadcom drivers, delivering driver-level I/O optimization for physical and virtual hardware. This builds on Vyatta's existing Intel 10GbE driver support, demonstrating on-going commitment to supporting the most widely deployed communications chipsets in today's cloud and virtual environments.

"The complete, enterprise-class feature set of Vyatta Network OS, combined with the expanding platform and driver support, reinforces Vyatta's position as the industry leader of on-demand networking software for virtual networks," said Tom McCafferty, vice president of marketing at Vyatta. "With almost 1 million downloads of Vyatta's Network OS, the latest 6.3 release showcases the power of on-demand software for the cloud and provides a glimpse of the future of next-gen networking architectures for enterprises."

In addition to the enhanced security and hypervisor support, Vyatta Network OS 6.3 delivers a host of new security features and usability improvements, including:

  • IPSec VPN and OpenVPN enhancements
  • Upgraded Snort intrusion prevention system (IPS) from SourceFire
  • Image upgrade improvements
