Vyper Adamas, Inc. Announces Teaming Agreement With Spartan Chassis

CARSON CITY, NV--(Marketwired - June 02, 2015) - Vyper Adamas, Inc. announced today a teaming agreement with Spartan Chassis ("Spartan"), a business unit of Spartan Motors, Inc. (NASDAQ: SPAR), which calls for Spartan to produce high-quality, custom Vyper platforms for defense and commercial applications. Vyper is a leading manufacturer in the Ultra-Light Combat Vehicle (ULCV) and Light Reconnaissance Vehicles (LRVs) programs; which are progressive programs for the U.S. Army.

"We are extremely pleased to team with Spartan," said Vyper CEO Nicholas Chapman. "Spartan has been recognized by the Tank and Automotive Command (TACOM) and the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) Joint Program Office (JPO) as one of the top manufacturers during the MRAP production; vehicles that attributed significantly to saving many lives in Iraq and Afghanistan."

Spartan has been awarded multiple subcontract orders for advanced tactical vehicles under the International Light Armored Vehicle (ILAV), Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) and Medium Mine Protected Vehicle (MMPV) programs. Additionally, the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency has recognized Spartan as one of its top-tier suppliers in quality and on-time delivery as Spartan continues to support the deployed vehicles with aftermarket parts and accessories. "The consistency of Spartan's ISO 9001:2008 certified processes and ability to produce quality vehicles on time, is the reason we are working together. Since we do not know the exact quantity of vehicles for the ULCV and LRV programs, Spartan provides us the flexibility to produce a high-quality product and deliver any quantity necessary at a moment's notice," Chapman said.

The Army is exploring concepts for future vehicles that would be lighter and faster, and still strong and lethal, according to Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster, Director of the Army Capabilities Integration Center and Deputy Commanding General, Futures, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command. "Our infantry brigade combat teams can get there fast with low logistics demand, and they can work in severely restricted terrain, but they lack mobility and protected firepower," McMaster said, speaking at the Center for Security and International Studies. "The answer is for the Army to develop vehicles for select infantry and airborne forces to conduct effective reconnaissance, offensive security operations and move infantry units with a security force."

The ULCV and LRVs programs represent a new direction for the U.S. Army and other armed forces around the world. At the U.S. Army's Maneuver Center of Excellence (MCoE) at Fort Benning, Georgia officials say the ULCV supports the Army's divestiture of the Humvee and it is separate from the Army's procurement of the armored Joint Light Tactical Vehicles. Whereas a 36-man scout platoon is equipped with nine Humvees, it would need only six ULCVs, which adds up to a savings of 18 vehicles per squadron.

These savings happen because the ULCV is designed to hold nine infantryman, unlike comparable legacy vehicles. The ULCV is a cost effective vehicle that can do more than previous models.

Vyper was asked to take part in the ULCV Platform Performance Demonstration (PPD) in June, 2014 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Its V3x Python vehicle fords 44 inches of water, was qualified to be sling loaded by a UH-60 and CH-47, and also loaded onto a C-130 pallet. It carried nine soldiers, without the need to dismount and take their ruck sacks off during the egress on a CH-47.

"It baffles me that anyone would want to get out of their vehicle to take their ruck sacks off in a combat situation. All equipment can be loaded in the V3x Python and loaded into a CH-47 with the soldiers still in the vehicle," said Vyper President Shane Sterling.

"The teaming agreement with Spartan, will enable Vyper to produce the high quantity of vehicles that will be needed for the ULCV and LRV programs, while still allowing us to produce low volume specialty vehicles in our plant in Nevada. This is the perfect situation as we will have the required capabilities in both production facilities, but with volume flexibility to address a broader set of customer needs."

About Vyper Adamas, Inc.

Vyper Adamas, Inc. is a small, closely-held corporation that brings a remarkably diverse expertise to the Vyper project -- allowing them to efficiently create a high functionality vehicle within a cost-effective framework. Its vehicle provides much more than the Humvee in power, torque, handling capability. It has a smoother suspension and maneuverability in tight situations, while also being able to sling loaded or driven into a CH-47. Vyper has worldwide patents for the chassis and the PODs, and a range of interchangeable PODs that slide into the vehicle platform. These PODs allows the vehicle to be multi-functioning and modular in construction -- resulting in units that can be easily mission transformed or repaired. Furthermore, the vehicle uses 85% COTS parts in its development for cost savings.

By combining Army capability and know-how with resources of private sector firms, the development of the revolutionary Vyper vehicle speaks volumes of the military's ability to collaborate with private industry. The Army's skills in fast-tracking programs and capitalizing on the most current high technology and engineering design were in the forefront for this project. The result of this approach has created a vehicle with remarkable and diverse capability that accelerates the military's thrust into meeting the needs of both present and future battlefield challenges.
