WABCO Presents Suite of Technology Innovations to Further Improve Vehicle Efficiency and Environmental Benefits; Shows Breakthroughs in Transmission Automation, Compression and Braking at IAA Commercial Vehicles 2010

BRUSSELS, BELGIUM--(Marketwire - September 14, 2010) -  WABCO Holdings Inc. (NYSE: WBC) (www.wabco-auto.com), a global technology leader and tier-one supplier to the commercial vehicle industry, today announced that the company will present its suite of technology innovations that further improve vehicle efficiency and environmental sustainability at IAA Commercial Vehicles 2010 in Hanover, Germany, from September 21 to 30.

"WABCO supports our industry's target for 2020 to increase fuel efficiency and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 20 percent respectively," said Jacques Esculier, WABCO Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "At IAA Commercial Vehicles 2010, we showcase our passion for technology to increase fuel efficiency, reduce vehicle weight and improve energy recovery, among other environmental benefits."

WABCO's fuel-saving breakthroughs include OptiDrive™ transmission automation system, recipient of the 2010 Automotive News PACE™ Award, the automotive industry's benchmark for innovation. A modular automated manual transmission system for medium and heavy duty commercial vehicles, OptiDrive continues the company's track record of more than 20 years of technology leadership in transmission automation. By optimizing gear shifting, OptiDrive improves vehicle control while enhancing the driver's effectiveness. It can also save up to 5 percent on fuel consumption, a major cost saving and environmental benefit over the vehicle's lifetime.

In addition, WABCO clutch compressors boost fuel efficiency by optimally disengaging a truck or bus compressor from the engine when the vehicle's air system reaches full pressure. This innovation saves up to 1,000 liters (264 gallons) of fuel in long haul operation annually while reducing carbon dioxide emissions by as much as 2,600 kilograms (5,700 pounds).

Also at IAA 2010, WABCO demonstrates its technology leadership by innovating with lighter materials and engineering optimum ratios for weight and performance. WABCO's new generation of NG22MAX™ heavy duty air disc brakes weigh 13 percent less than comparable products. WABCO compressor crankcases made out of aluminum weigh 40 percent less than grey iron ones. WABCO single-cylinder high output compressors weigh 20 percent less than twin-cylinder models with equivalent performance.

WABCO will also exhibit its innovative electronically controlled air suspension for commercial trailers, which integrated with electronic braking and axle lift control, can reduce fuel consumption by seven tenths of a liter every 100 kilometers (3.4 miles per gallon).
