WABCO Supplies New Generation of Electronically Controlled Air Suspension Systems to Major Manufacturers of Trucks and Buses in Europe

BRUSSELS, BELGIUM--(Marketwire - June 23, 2011) - WABCO Holdings Inc. (NYSE:WBC) (www.wabco-auto.com), a global technology leader and tier-one supplier to the commercial vehicle industry, today announced that it has entered into several agreements with leading truck and bus manufacturers in Europe to supply its new generation of electronically controlled air suspension (ECAS) systems. WABCO's new ECAS reduces costs for original equipment manufacturers and makes commercial vehicles more environmentally friendly.

Until now, WABCO's ECAS electronic control unit (ECU) was mounted in the vehicle's cabin whereas new ECAS technology also allows the ECU to be mounted on the vehicle's frame, resulting in easier, more efficient installation which reduces costs in original equipment manufacturing processes. WABCO's new ECAS system reduces vehicle weight due to lighter components, thus increasing fuel economy. It also significantly lowers noise emission through improved design of air compression valves due to a more effective acoustic filter.

Since WABCO introduced the industry's first ECAS technology in 1986, the company has sold more than 3 million systems worldwide. So far, customers collectively have driven commercial vehicles equipped with WABCO ECAS technology more than 2.5 billion miles (more than 4.0 billion kilometers).

"Our new ECAS technology marks 25 years of WABCO leadership in electronically controlled air suspension systems. It provides optimal vehicle safety and driver effectiveness while lowering manufacturing costs, boosting fuel efficiency and reducing environmental impact," said Jean-Christophe Figueroa, WABCO Vice President, Vehicle Dynamics and Control. "Our passion is to continue to deliver innovative air suspension solutions to meet the rising standards of vehicle makers and transport operators around the world."

WABCO ECAS maintains the vehicle parallel to the road surface at a pre-set level. It increases vehicle safety for optimal load protection and stable vehicle operation. It also provides fuel saving by lowering the vehicle chassis and lifting axles which helps reduce the vehicle's aerodynamic and rolling resistance.

WABCO ECAS integrates electronic shock absorber control, enables traction optimization and provides Controller Area Network (CAN) databus compatibility for faster, better onboard electronic communication among vehicle sensors and controls. It also ensures a constant vehicle height selected by the driver for safer loading and unloading, among other functions.
