STERLING, IL--(Marketwired - May 08, 2014) - Arguably the most important, and rewarding, job in America also comes with more than its fair share of physical pain. With the average mom spending just under 40 hours each week transporting children, carrying them around, cooking for them, cleaning up after them and running household errands, motherhood is full-time job. And as a result, moms bear more pain than the general population and are more likely to experience weekly pain in the core areas of back, neck and shoulders, according to research conducted by Harris Interactive and Wahl.

About the Studies

In 2013, Wahl and Harris Interactive asked 1,000 people, including 300 moms with children under 18, to share their pain. The verdict: Moms bear more pain than the general population. In total, 84 percent of moms experienced muscle or joint pain with seven out of 10 experiencing it in three or more places. Moms not only had more aches, but they were 25 percent more likely to experience it on a weekly basis, at least in the core areas of back, neck and shoulders.

In a separate study, Wahl investigated the physical demands moms endure. The survey among 500-plus moms revealed that raising a child is a full time job with the average mom spending just under 40 hours each week transporting children, carrying them around, cooking for them, cleaning up after them and running household errands.
