Wal-Mart Canada's SAM'S CLUBs to Collect Electronic Waste With Greentec

E-Recycling program begins June 5, 2007-World Environment Day

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 5, 2007) - Wal-Mart Canada today announced the planned launch of an e-recycling program at all SAM'S CLUB Canada locations. In partnership with Greentec, the company will collect and recycle electronic waste - like cell phones, PDA's, computers, rechargeable batteries, inkjet and toner cartridges - collected from SAM'S CLUB members. In the first year, the company expects to keep more than 450,000 lbs. of electronic waste from going to landfill.

Greentec, a leading provider of reverse logistics and e-recycling services will manage the return of products from the clubs for refurbishment or recycling. All products received by Greentec undergo a series of inspection and security measures. Data contained within products such as cell phones and computers is erased in accordance with R.C.M.P. standards.

The electronic-recycling service for SAM'S CLUB members is one of many initiatives announced as part of Wal-Mart Canada's For the Greener Good sustainability program.

"Electronic waste is the fastest growing waste stream worldwide. Studies reveal that disposed computer equipment, phones, audio-visual equipment and small household appliances account for more than 140,000 tonnes each year in Canada. Wal-Mart Canada is leading the way by responding to the consumer's need for a convenient drop off location for the recycling of used electronics," said Tony Perrotta, President of Greentec.

"Our SAM'S CLUBs are designed to provide members special services that go above and beyond," said Shawn Baldwin, senior vice president of SAM'S CLUB Canada. "Our members rely on us for great merchandise, but also creative solutions like this one to help them operate their home or their business efficiently."
