Wal-Mart USA CEO to Participate in TOWN HALL Los Angeles' CEO Series

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - October 13, 2008) - Eduardo Castro-Wright, President and CEO of Wal-Mart Stores, USA will address TOWN HALL Los Angeles as part of its ongoing CEO series on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at the Omni Los Angeles Hotel. Angelenos have the opportunity to ask this industry leader how the current economy changes Wal-Mart's business strategies.

On whether the economy is contributing to an increase in Wal-Mart sales, Castro-Wright said, "I wouldn't say a significant part of the current results is related to the economic environment. The changes in merchandising, marketing and improved service in the stores... have vastly improved the shopping experience, and that will continue to drive sales after the economy rebounds."

Castro-Wright was promoted to his current position in September 2005 following his role as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Wal-Mart Stores, USA. Prior to that position, he was President and CEO for Wal-Mart Mexico. He joined Wal-Mart in 2001. Before Wal-Mart, Castro-Wright served as President and CEO of Honeywell Transportation and Power Systems and earlier was the President and CEO of Honeywell Asia/Pacific.

TOWN HALL historically invites the leaders of top companies to speak and address the concerns of Angelenos. In 2008, Xerox's Anne Mulcahy, UPS' Scott Davis, and Deloitte's Barry Salzberg outlined America's competitive urgency, sustainability and changes in the workforce, respectively.

One of the Top 10 Regional Executive Leadership Forums in the nation, and the only one in its region, TOWN HALL Los Angeles has been a nonprofit, nonpartisan membership organization supported by Angelenos, foundations and corporations who believe in open public discussion since 1937. Our mission is to provide a forum for ideas -- a place for conversation and community. We advocate for no side, represent no particular ideology and stand solidly in support of free speech, civility and a belief that knowledge is a priceless commodity.
