Walden University Offers New Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Degree

New Online Degree Program Broadens Opportunities for Students in the Criminal Justice Field

MINNEAPOLIS, MN--(Marketwire - April 22, 2009) - Walden University now offers a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice to prepare students for entry-level, mid-career or higher-level positions in various criminal justice settings such as law enforcement, courts, corrections, homeland security and social services.

The online degree program features curriculum based on the recommendations of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences to provide a solid foundation in criminal justice principles. The accredited online university courses are designed to help students become effective social change agents in criminal justice organizations at local, state, federal, or international levels.

"As a former community corrections officer, police officer, and county manager who oversaw the fiscal operations of a sheriff's department, I can attest that the professionalization of the field of criminal justice is of paramount importance to better serve and protect citizens worldwide," said Dr. Matthew Collins, a faculty member in the new program from Walden's School of Public Policy and Administration. "Walden's program combines expertise in the criminal justice field with public policy theory to help guide students as they enter and become leaders in the field."

Students can choose from five concentrations: Computer Information Systems and Security, Crime and Criminals, Criminal Justice Management and Administration, Homeland Security, and Human Services for Criminal Justice. Courses cover timely topics such as drugs, gangs, organized crime, weapons of mass destruction, computer forensics, and profiling serial and mass murderers. Students also explore the crime assessment process through lifelike, computer-generated scenarios of crime scenes.
