Walden University Offers New Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision

The New Distance Learning Doctoral Program Is Designed to Prepare Future Leaders in the Counseling Profession

MINNEAPOLIS, MN--(Marketwire - January 12, 2010) - Walden University's College of Social and Behavioral Sciences now offers a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision to provide the skills and experience counseling professionals need to take leadership roles in clinical, community, academic, nonprofit or research settings.

Earning a doctoral degree in this profession is more important than ever because of a recent change to professional standards established by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), requiring new faculty members of CACREP-accredited programs to hold doctoral degrees in counselor education and supervision by 2013.

"As the demand for Ph.D.-level counseling professionals increases in the coming years, this program can help students expand their career opportunities and become true leaders in the profession," said Dr. Carl J. Sheperis, Ph.D., N.C.C., L.P.C., A.C.S., program director for Walden University's Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision. "Whether counseling professionals want to advance their clinical counseling supervision skills or assume leadership roles within their organization or community, Walden's Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision can provide them with the skills and knowledge they need to implement change in their communities and organizations."

Students can choose from the General Program or five specializations. The General Program allows students to choose two elective courses in their area of interest, which they can apply to a specialization in Consultation, Counseling and Social Change, Forensic Mental Health Counseling, Nonprofit Management and Leadership, or Trauma and Crisis.
