Canadian Author Goes to the Dogs in Tampa

TAMPA, FLORIDA--(Marketwire - Nov. 13, 2008) - Award-winning author Marsha Boulton is going to the dogs this weekend in Tampa, Fl. Ms. Boulton latest book is a memoir about her life with dogs (and other cur) entitled "Wally's World: Life with Wally the Wonder Dog."

In partnership with the ASPCA "Mission Orange," Ms Boulton is launching "Wally's Week - Tampa" at Tampa's huge Pet Adoption EXPO at the State Fairgrounds on Saturday, November 15.

"It's really simple," Boulton says,' "which may be why it works. People who adopt a shelter dog during a "Wally's Week" receive a great swag bag filled with as many goodies as I could collect."

Sponsors such as Pet Value Stores supplied the quality canvas bags, while Wellness and Old Mother Hubbard provide natural food and treat samples. To promote responsible ownership there are biodegradable cleanup bags and a dog training DVD from Animal Planet. Everything from creature-friendly dog shampoo to special surprises from Crazy Dog are packed into the bag, along with a copy of "Wally's World."

Launched in New York City last month "Wally's Week" was a resounding success. Many difficult-to-adopt shelter dogs, some re-named "Wally," found homes (as described on actress Glenn Close's retail and philanthropic web site (see http://tinyurl.com/5r9rfg)

In New York Marsha was invited by the ASPCA to join forces and take the show on the road. The goal of "Mission Orange" is "to create a country of humane communities" and ultimately "a nation where there is no more unnecessary euthanasia of adoptable animals."

The organizers of the Adoption EXPO expect to adopt out over 200 dogs on Saturday. Each time a pet is adopted, a bell rings out, reminiscent of the bell that rings every time an angel gets its wings in "It's A Wonderful Life," and the adopters get a "Wally's Week" bag.

Ms. Boulton will be signing books at Barnes and Noble (11802 N. Dale Mabry) this evening (Thursday, Nov. 13) between 7 - 9 p.m. Tomorrow, between 9 - 11 a.m. she will be taping a segment for NBC affiliate WFLA's popular "Daytime" with two beautiful rescue bull terriers named Star and Boca who will also be at her side all day Saturday at the EXPO or at least until a family insists on adopting them.
