Want to Save GBP 1316 Per Year? Get on Your Bike, Says Swinton

MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - April 10, 2011) - As prices for petrol last week increased yet again to an average of 132.12p per litre, Swinton Bikes is advising those that are feeling the pinch to take up motorcycling and save by maximising on fuel efficiency.

The news comes after earlier in the year, the Government announced a 0.76p increase in fuel duty, which combined with the 20% increase in VAT, means petrol prices are at a record high and have increased on average 20.3p in the past year, and 6.93p this year alone.

Swinton Motorbike Insurance sees this as the perfect time for people to take up motorcycling and save money in the process. With the average bike running on 56 mpg, compared to a car's 25mpg, it's clear to see how many more miles you get for your money. It also means that over a year, if a person averaged 10,000 miles it would save a motorcyclist on average £1316 per year, with motorists paying approximately £2376 compared to motorcyclists £1060 per year.

Anthony Aronin, head of Swinton Bike Insurance, said: "The money saved by riding a motorcycle could help those living in austerity Britain. By selling your car, buying a bike and saving on fuel efficiency motorcyclists across the country will be better positioned to weather the recession"

He added, "This just adds to the many benefits of riding a bike, as along with saving money on petrol and being a lot more environmentally friendly by emitting fewer emissions than cars, motorbikes also tend to offer cheaper insurance deals".
