Warning to Property and Boat Owners on the Red River

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA--(Marketwire - Oct. 16, 2008) - Recent precipitation both here and south of the border is causing unusually heavy water flows in the Manitoba portions of the Red River. This means that St. Andrews Lock and Dam, at Lockport Manitoba, will not be able to manage a gradual lowering of water levels, as we normally do at this time of year. The dam will be removed as flows permit during the next two weeks. This means that water levels above the dam, between Lister Rapids and Lockport, will be much lower than normal for this time of year. Other sections of the river will have higher than normal levels. As always, property owners, boat owners, fishers and recreational users are reminded to exercise caution, no matter what the conditions, or the season.
