Washington Publishing Company Among Industry Content Contributors to HIMSS ICD-10 PlayBook

CEO Andrew Fitzpatrick Contributes Content to Online Resource on Behalf of the Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) X12

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwire - Jun 20, 2011) - Andrew Fitzpatrick, CEO of Washington Publishing Company (WPC), is among multiple industry content contributors to the ICD-10 PlayBook, the interactive web-based resource launched last month by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS). The ICD-10 PlayBook provides critical information to assist hospitals, ambulatory centers, practitioners and their staff in transitioning to new ICD-10 diagnosis and procedure code sets effective October 2013.

Fitzpatrick made his contribution as representative of the Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) X12, which develops Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) standards and related documents for national and global markets. An active member, WPC is the exclusive publisher for ASC X12, including the X12 Implementation Guides mandated for use under HIPAA.

"WPC is proud to represent ASC X12 and be part of the 25 providers, health plans, health I.T. companies, associations, consultants and other organizations that willingly collaborated to share valuable content, resources and expertise to educate stakeholders about the massive process and information systems changes required by CMS to implement ICD-10," said Fitzpatrick. "This dynamic, centralized knowledge tool and comprehensive roadmap is intended to guide providers, physician groups and insurers in planning, mobilizing and managing the transition from ICD-9 to ICD-10. To echo all participants, the time is now to focus on preparations to alleviate long-term negative implications like fraud and abuse and preventable high costs."

Fitzpatrick leads ASC X12's Marketing and Business Development Task Group. For the ICD-10 PlayBook, he oversaw the creation of information detailing: ASC X12's emerging activities developing data standards for healthcare and insurance, and the conversion from ASC X12's 4010 to 5010 standard for health insurers to incorporate the mandated ICD-10 diagnosis and procedure code sets.

The ICD-10 PlayBook can be accessed for free at www.himss.org/asp/topics_ICD10Playbook.asp. It will expand based on feedback from industry stakeholders and their needs.
