Wave Wireless Helps Chicago Police Reduce Crime

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - April 12, 2006) -

SPEEDMesh™ Routers Transmit Real-Time Video To Police Command Center

Wave Wireless Corporation (OTCBB:WVWC), a provider of secure and reliable wireless mesh routers, today announced that its SPEEDMesh™ routers have been deployed by the Chicago Police Department for crime prevention initiatives in neighborhoods throughout the city. Operating in the 4.9 GHz band, the new SPEEDMesh™ 9200 routers from Wave Wireless were installed by RMS Technology Solutions, a systems integrator offering advanced video surveillance solutions, to enhance security and video quality for the Chicago Police Department's video surveillance system.

"The use of the Wave Wireless 4.9 GHz SPEEDMesh routers have provided superior video quality and exceptional wireless transmission distances, citywide, from our geographically dispersed camera systems, back to our command center or remotely to the squad cars via laptop computers," said Sergeant Gregory Hoffman of the Chicago Police Department. "We are very pleased with the technology provided by RMS Technology Solutions and Wave Wireless Corporation, it has proven to be very integral to the overall strategy of the city's public safety program, "Operation Disruption."

According to published newspaper reports, the homicide rate and street-based drug dealing in Chicago has fallen following a series of public safety initiatives. These initiatives include the use of the SPEEDMesh™ technology along with camera surveillance, street intelligence and community feedback that together, are used to deploy resources in areas prone to violence and crime. RMS Technology Solutions has installed approximately 200 SPEEDMesh™ 9200 routers to date in Chicago with plans for continued expansion of the network.

Paul Zucker of RMS Technology Solutions said, "Wave Wireless' routers are secure, highly reliable and are easily managed remotely because of the advanced application software. With the new SPEEDMesh 4.9GHz mesh routers, surveillance video travels virtually unmolested on the new 4.9GHz licensed Public Safety band, free from unlicensed WiFi interference. The immediate result is noticeably enhanced video quality."

The Chicago installation includes wireless video surveillance cameras that transmit real-time video to a police operations command center via the SPEEDMesh™ wireless mesh network. The cameras and Wave Wireless' routers are mounted on 25-foot poles in public areas with a high crime rate, providing television quality picture, with a full 30-frames-per-second of video clarity.

"The installation of SPEEDMesh 9200 routers in Chicago is another example of Wave Wireless' effectiveness in handling the broadband needs of security and surveillance applications," said Charles W. Brown, CEO of Wave Wireless. "We believe that with strong partners like RMS Technology Solutions and a strong portfolio of market-leading technologies, Wave Wireless is ideally positioned to exploit the rapidly growing safety, security and surveillance markets."
