Wavefront Helps Drive the Growth and Success of Wireless Companies in Ontario With Support From the Government of Canada

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Aug. 21, 2013) - Wavefront, Canada's Centre of Excellence for Wireless Commercialization and Research, has secured access to critical funding that will help accelerate the growth and success of wireless companies in Ontario. Building on a four year relationship with the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP), Wavefront will continue to provide early stage companies across the province with funding support for technical expertise and strategic business development services that are proven to accelerate commercial outcomes and strengthen the wireless sector.

Wavefront accelerates the growth, commercialization and success of wireless companies in Canada by connecting them with critical resources, partners and opportunities. As Canada's premier innovation assistance program for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), NRC-IRAP is instrumental in helping achieve this goal. Working in collaboration with NRC-IRAP, the Wavefront Accelerated Program has facilitated more than 100 projects to date that have provided funding support to companies at multiple stages of growth.

Toronto-based GreenOwl Mobile is among the companies that have benefited from the Wavefront Accelerated Program. The company's mobile app 'TrafficAlert' is transforming traffic reporting for commuters across North America. Leveraging NRC-IRAP funding facilitated by Wavefront, GreenOwl acquired specialized user interface and user experience (UI/UX) consulting and design. This enabled the company to present a sophisticated prototype to major North American media companies, which resulted in new business deals being signed.

Matt Man, CEO of GreenOwl Mobile states, "The NRC-IRAP funding support we received through the Wavefront Accelerated Program enabled us to develop a refined user experience for our TrafficAlert mobile app, which helped us secure commercial deals including the US State DOT traveler information system, as well as the Regional Municipality of York, and Rock 95. As a result, TrafficAlert will soon be available to more than 20 million potential customers across North America."

The Wavefront Accelerated Program provides NRC-IRAP funding assistance to companies in British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick. Companies that have benefited from this and other Wavefront programs and services have increased their revenues by almost 20%, and accelerated their time-to-market by four to six months.
