Wavefront Hooks CNN Contributor Up With VeriCorder Mobile Journalism App

Wavefront sponsored CNN iReporter Chris Morrow's smart phone and connected her with VeriCorder to experiment with its innovative iPhone-based mobile journalism, or mojo, app

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA and KELOWNA, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - March 18, 2010) - Citizen journalist and CNN's leading iReporter Chris Morrow travels the world, camera in hand, documenting stories for the international news network. A mobile phone is possibly the second most essential piece of equipment for Morrow. During her 17 days covering the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver last month, Morrow relied heavily on a smart phone sponsored by B.C.'s mobile technology commercialization center Wavefront while producing more than 30 iReports for the network with the majority aired on CNN and HLN.

Wavefront also connected Morrow to one of its mobile community members, Kelowna-based VeriCorder Technology, a company developing a new breed of mobile journalism, or mojo, applications. VeriCorder's ShowCase software for the iPhone is a new mobile reporting tool for those who want to record, edit and file multimedia stories directly from their handset to the web. The application was tested before its launch at Wavefront's Vancouver facility and was one of 25 locally developed mobile solutions showcased by DigiBC, the Digital Media and Wireless Association of B.C., at the Robson Square media center during the Olympics. Wavefront also sponsored eight handsets for DigiBC staff to showcase other locally developed mobile phone applications during the games.

Morrow plans to continue using and evaluating the innovative reporting solution for VeriCorder now that she has returned to her base in San Diego.

"It's an amazing new product, and I look forward to using it in my adventures around the world," said Morrow, who traveled to Haiti in February to document relief efforts and next plans to travel to Rio de Janeiro to cover the Red Bull Air Race in May.

Morrow's CNN iReports have received nearly 4 million views online and of the more than 800 reports she has filed, more than 600 have been broadcast on CNN or HLN. Morrow's film "Wyland: Earth Day" documenting artist Wyland's 24-hour Earth Day mural project in Long Beach, Calif. in 2009 won the Best Film in the San Diego Filmmaker Series at the 2009 San Diego Film Festival.
