WaveTec Vision's ORA System(R) With VerifEye(TM) Sets New Standard for 21st Century Medicine, Delivering on the Promise of Patient- and Provider-Centered Healthcare

New Data on the ORA System Shows 50% Reduction in Cataract Surgery Retreatments; Increase of $186,000 in Premium IOL Revenue

ALISO VIEJO, CA--(Marketwired - Apr 23, 2014) - WaveTec Vision, the leader in intraoperative wavefront measurement technology for cataract surgeons, is setting the new standard for 21st Century Medicine with its proprietary ORA System® with VerifEye.™

By delivering on the promise of patient- and provider-centered healthcare, the ORA System has successfully reduced costly cataract surgery retreatments by 50 percent. Because ORA helps refine refractive outcomes, surgeons have greater confidence in premium IOLs and has resulted in added annual revenue of $186,000 for users. This and other new data will be released at this week's American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) Annual Symposium and Congress in Boston.

The ORA System optimizes intraoperative wavefront data during cataract surgery to calculate IOL power. It is the technology of choice for high-volume cataract surgeons nationwide who use it to provide critical feedback and guide premium IOL selection.

"Healthcare is changing, and 21st Century Medicine means that patients are now consumers," said Tom Frinzi, WaveTec president and CEO. "To stay relevant providers have to meet the needs and expectations of their patients, and we think the ORA System is a well-positioned technology to deliver on that expectation."

The ORA System has captured four percent of overall U.S. cataract surgery volume and made a significant impact in the premium intraocular lens (IOL) channel. More than 140,000 cataract procedures have been performed to date with the ORA System, which has been tested, refined and optimized with over 10 software/hardware upgrades in the past three years. VerifEye is the most significant upgrade yet to the ORA System. VerifEye enables surgeons to confirm that the eye is stable prior to the measurement by providing streaming refractions in the preview screen, which surgeons consider a tremendous benefit.

Frinzi added, "Whether a practice is differentiating itself with advanced technology IOLs or femtosecond lasers, the ORA System is a must-have technology for today and tomorrow."

Ophthalmologists may visit WaveTec at booth #1463 during the ASCRS Symposium & Congress, April 25-29, 2014 at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. Multiple papers and posters will be presented on the ORA System during the conference. See http://annualmeeting.ascrs.org/ for a presentation schedule.
