Web Seminar: Stirring Up STEM at Worcester Polytechnic Institute

DULLES, VA--(Marketwire - September 13, 2010) -  Echo360, the recognized leader in campus-wide solutions that enable colleges and universities to record, manage and share rich media course content for lecture capture and distance learning, announced that it is hosting an online seminar with Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). Titled "Stirring Up STEM at WPI," the web seminar will recount how and why WPI has equipped ten classrooms with Echo360 allowing instructors to publish lectures in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) courses for on-campus and distance education.

The seminar will be held on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at 1:00 PM EDT. To register for the free webinar, go to http://www.echo360.com/stem_webinar/stem_mailer.html.

Founded in 1865, WPI is a pioneer in engineering and technology education. WPI offers its 4,000+ students more than 50 graduate and undergraduate programs in science, engineering, technology and more.

Lecture capture is used at WPI to enhance student learning and understanding of complex course material. The interactive web seminar will cover:

  • How WPI answered questions about class attendance and faculty concerns about using yet another technology
  • Innovative uses and unexpected challenges of lecture capture
  • Tips to encourage instructor buy-in and adoption
  • Student feedback on the use of lecture capturing in undergraduate courses

Two WPI staff members will share their story: Mary Beth Harrity, M.Ed. is the director of the Academic Technology Center (ATC) at WPI. Her team is responsible for all electronic classrooms on campus as well as all media production and AV systems engineering for the WPI community. Kate Beverage, M.S.Ed. is the manager of technology for teaching and learning support services. In this position, she manages outreach efforts regarding the use of instructional technology, as well as the use of lecture capture in the institution's on-campus and distance learning programs.
