Webinar on New GAAP Presented by the Ordre, Groupe Les Affaires and Lesaffaires.com an Unqualified Success

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - June 17, 2010) - On June 9, close to 500 business people participated in a Webinar on the new Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises, specifically targeting chartered accountants and other interested parties.

Participants greatly appreciated speakers Sophie Bureau, CA, accounting research partner at Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton, and Francine Gélinas, CA, full professor, ESG-UQAM, thanks to their ability to distil the information and clearly explain the impact of the transition to these new standards for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The Ordre was very pleased with the turnout at this event, which demonstrates just how important this January 1, 2011 transition is for the profession and the business community as a whole.

"Why should Canadian SMEs adopt the new accounting standards for private enterprises? The answer is simple: their content more closely reflects the specific needs of SMEs and users of their financial statements. Even though these standards have been simplified, they are just as rigorous. Substantial improvements were made to address a number of issues that have proven complicated for SMEs in the past," commented Daniel McMahon, FCA, President and CEO of the Ordre.

If you missed this online seminar, you can still catch it at no charge on the Lesaffaires.com website in the "Événements" section under "Les nouvelles normes comptables pour les sociétés privées : soyez prêts pour janvier 2011".

Professionals and the general public are also invited to attend a second webinar on the new GAAP scheduled for September 29, 2010. Registrations can be made on the Lesaffaires.com website in the "Événements" section under "Les nouvelles normes comptables pour les sociétés privées : soyez prêts pour janvier 2011 – 2e volet."
