WebTech Wireless Expands NextBus® Service for Downtown Connection With New York Downtown Alliance

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Oct. 14, 2010) - WebTech Wireless Inc. (TSX:WEW), a leading provider of vehicle fleet location-based services (LBS) and telematics technology, today announced that five additional NextBus® LED signs, providing predictive bus arrival information, have been installed along the 37-stop route of the Downtown Connection, a free bus service in Lower Manhattan provided by the Alliance for Downtown New York. Funding for the program was secured by New York State Senator Daniel Squadron and established in coordination with the New York City Department of Transportation (DOT).

"This expansion further demonstrates that NextBus is an integral part of this unique community program, delivering accurate and reliable data to transit riders for increased convenience and efficiency," said Owen Moore, WebTech Wireless' Chief Operating Officer. "Our predictive transit technology will allow passengers to reduce their waiting time at the bus stop and enjoy experiencing more of what this great neighbourhood has to offer."

Under the contract, NextBus will use its patented technology to process data obtained from all buses in the Downtown Connection's fleet equipped with GPS devices to provide users with actual real-time up-to-the-minute information, not just the posted schedule times, about the next two bus arrival times through a series of five newly installed LED signs along the route. This brings the total number of signs installed on the route to date to seven. Two additional signs will be installed within Battery Park City in the coming months on Vesey Street, thanks to a grant from Goldman Sachs. In addition to broadcasting messages about arrival times, the NextBus signs can also be used to transmit emergency public service messages.

The buses in the Downtown Connection transit service shuttled more than 834,000 workers, residents and visitors in 2009, and the Downtown Alliance expects those numbers to increase this year. The shuttle buses run at 10-minute intervals from 10 AM to 8 PM daily, with more limited service on weekends.

This latest NextBus sale underscores WebTech Wireless' commitment to meeting the needs of transit agencies of all types and sizes.

About NextBus®

NextBus RTPIS patented technology predicts transit vehicle arrival times in real-time, based upon a vehicle's actual GPS location, and provides this information to transit users via electronic digital signs, mobile phones, internet-enabled computers, or NextBus' automated Telephone Information System, accessible from any phone. Users can also sign up for automatic email or text alerts, sent minutes before their bus, streetcar or train is predicted to arrive – allowing them to be at their stop just-in-time and reduce waiting. NextBus also provides transit authorities with numerous fleet management tools designed to improve operating efficiency, enhance service and meet government reporting requirements.
