WebTech Wireless' InterFleet® Salt Spreader Solution will Help City of Ottawa Monitor Road Salt Use to Reduce Costs and Environmental Impact

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Jan. 22, 2010) - WebTech Wireless Inc. (TSX:WEW), a leading provider of vehicle fleet location-based services (LBS) and telematics technology, today announced that it has been awarded a contract by the City of Ottawa, Ontario to equip approximately 180 salt spreader vehicles with WebTech Wireless' InterFleet® GPS remote vehicle management solution. This will allow the city to precisely monitor its winter road salting operations in real-time, significantly reducing salt use, lowering costs and mitigating environmental impact. The contract is valued at more than $600,000.

Ottawa will use WebTech Wireless' InterFleet® solution, including the new 'Prewet Tool', to allow supervisors to view each vehicle's salt use instantaneously and have operators adjust spreader rates on the move. Depending on winter weather conditions, city officials estimate this could result in an annual 10% (13,300 tonne) reduction in salt use, representing an approximate saving of $1 million.

Reduced salt use will also help Ottawa meet its environmental objectives in support of Environment Canada's Road Salts Code of Practice, whose goal it is to reduce the approximately five million tonnes of salt used by Canadian municipalities each winter, lessening the harmful effects excessive salt use has on plant and animal life, while at the same time maintaining safe winter road conditions for users.

Commenting on the award, Owen Moore, COO at WebTech Wireless said, "We're very pleased to have been awarded this contract by the City of Ottawa. It is a real vote of confidence from a city that understands all too well the challenges of winter road maintenance. We're very confident that InterFleet® will meet and exceed all of the city's objectives, and look forward to showcasing it to other cities facing similar winter fleet management challenges."

Scott Edmonds, WebTech Wireless' President and CEO said, "Since acquiring the InterFleet® and NextBus® brands, we've seen our Telematics for the Planet initiative take on a whole new dimension. Beyond improving direct fleet operating efficiency through decreased fuel use, telematics has the potential to help public works departments manage services that have direct and indirect environmental impacts, such as excessive salt usage. We're very excited about working with governments to explore how our technology can help in areas such as winter maintenance, waste removal, and emergency services, among others."

In addition to being the nation's capital, Ottawa is Canada's fourth largest city and home to 900,000 inhabitants. It ranks as one of the coldest capital cities on the planet and exhibits great variations in winter temperatures, contributing to often severe and unpredictable road icing and snowfall conditions, and the need for efficient winter road maintenance capabilities.

This latest contract underscores WebTech Wireless' commitment to providing custom made solutions for a variety of organizations that depend on efficient and effective mobile resource management.
