WEIDMANN Announces Major Upgrade to Board Machine in St. Johnsbury, VT -- Reaffirms Commitment to Americas Markets

ST. JOHNSBURY, VT--(Marketwire - January 26, 2011) - WEIDMANN is announcing a significant 40 MUSD upgrade to the transformer board machine in its St. Johnsbury, VT location. After the investment in a new board machine in Rapperswil, Switzerland during 2009, and the recently completed upgrade of the board machine in Malin, Ukraine, the announced upgrade in St. Johnsbury is the next step in WEIDMANN's continuous dedication to provide high quality hot press dried (HPD) transformer board to its customers on a global level.

WEIDMANN has long been acknowledged as the global leader in electrical insulation for transformer manufacturers. In particular, WEIDMANN's HPD transformer board is recognized for its extraordinary high quality, which can withstand the high electrical and mechanical stresses that are inherent with High-Voltage Power Transformer designs. WEIDMANN's proven track record in transformer board has continuously met the rigorous demands of our customers including today's new Ultra-High Voltage 1,000 kV transformers.

The announced upgrade will focus on the critical drying operation of the board machine in St. Johnsbury, and it is anticipated to take place over the next 18 months. The modifications will be done in parallel to the existing manufacturing line, thereby eliminating any negative impact on the production capacity during the construction phase.

Together with the decision made in March 2010 to construct and commission a new electrical grade paper mill in Urbana, OH, this additional investment clearly demonstrates the commitment of WEIDMANN to the Americas markets, its confidence in the future potential of the power transformer industry in this region, and its willingness to invest in the most modern equipment in its industry.
