'Welcome Aboard Toxic Airlines': Premiere of Ground-breaking Documentary on Air Contamination on Planes

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - April 8, 2009) - The airline division of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) invites the public to the North American French-language premiere of "Welcome Aboard Toxic Airlines," a ground-breaking documentary on air contamination aboard airplanes. The film will be screened on Saturday, April 11, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. as part of the "Soirees de l'environnement" organized by Cinema du Parc and Cine-Militant.

The film, shown in the original English version with French subtitles, sheds light on what aviation professionals have called the worst scandal in the field's history. For about 50 years, passengers and crewmembers have been breathing unfiltered air taken directly from engines, exposing them to the carcinogens and neurotoxins present in motor oil.

"This documentary raises serious concerns about the health and safety of airline crews and passengers. Our union is studying the issue and informing its members and health and safety representatives," said Nathalie Stringer, president of CUPE Air Transat Component and vice-president of CUPE National.
