The Welland & District SPCA and the Ontario SPCA Partner With the Wikwemikong Unceded Reserve to Help Animals


WIKWEMIKONG, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sept. 23, 2016) -

The Welland & District SPCA and the Ontario SPCA have partnered with the Wikwemikong Unceded Reserve - the Wiky Rez - on the eastern end of Manitoulin Island to provide mobile spay/neuter and animal wellness services.

The week-long event is wrapping up over the next few days. To date, 95 spay/neuter surgeries have been completed and another 24 spay/neuter surgeries scheduled today. The Ontario SPCA and Welland & District SPCA have also provided wellness exams to 186 animals. An additional 50 animals are scheduled to be seen today.

This year, 30 students from the Veterinary Technician Program at Collège Boréal in Sudbury joined the teams. The Ontario SPCA and Welland & District SPCA commend the students and Collège Boréal for their commitment to animal welfare.
