Weller Expands Its Popular WX Line With New WXA2, a Two-Channel Hot Air and Soldering Station

High Performance Rework Tools and Peripherals Ideal for Electronics and Industrial Repair or Rework

SPARKS, MD--(Marketwired - Jun 10, 2014) -  Weller, a global brand of Apex Tool Group known for innovative soldering solutions, today announced the launch of the WXA2, a two-channel, 255 watt hot air and soldering station.

The WXA2 features the new WXHAP200 Hot Air Pencil with 200 watts of power, a 35-second heat-up time, and a full line of hot air (HAP) nozzles to offer a full range of application solutions. Two new accessories have been added to the WX line extension: the WXHP120 Pre-heating Plate and the WXSB200 Solder Bath. The WXHP120 Pre-heating Plate with 120 watts of power is used to slowly increase the temperature of a printed circuit board prior to rework. In addition, the WX line now includes the WXSB200 Solder Bath with 200 watts of power. This accessory is used for tinning component leads and removing insulative coatings. Unlike traditional units that are continuously powered while in operation, the WXA2 includes a Standby Temperature mode, which monitors the use of the WXHAP200 and automatically sets the tool and peripheral devices to a lower temperature. The Auto Off feature can also be used to allow the unit to go into a Sleep mode when not in use. These innovative features reduce energy consumption, increase the life of the heating element and nozzles, and improve overall safety for end users.

"The Weller WXA2 rework system delivers unprecedented versatility, performance, power and peripheral management on one single platform solution," said Dwayne Dupuis, senior product manager for Weller North America. "Our customers can feel confident knowing our WX solutions deliver ultimate value, making PC connectivity, data logging and traceability standard with every system."

The 200 watt WXHAP200 Hot Air Pencil delivers 200° - 662° F (50°C to 350°C) within 35 seconds using an integrated hot air activation button on the handle. This convenient feature provides flexibility for high mass soldering and SMT rework/repair applications. An ESD safe integrated ionization circuit is used to provide static free airflow that won't damage or degrade sensitive components.

The 120-watt WXHP120 pre-heating plate delivers 50 percent more power than conventional Weller 24 V hot plates. A high-performance heater delivers efficient thermal energy transmission from 200 - 392° F (50°C - 200°C). The 200-watt WXSB200 Solder Bath delivers 200° - 930° F (100°C - 500°C) even temperature with a WX controlled high performance efficient heater.

All Weller WX series solder, desolder and hot air tools have an integrated sensor system with communications, signal processing, and memory built into the handle. This allows control parameters to be stored in the tool's internal memory, not in the main WX power unit. Removal of the tool from its safety rest will return the tool back to its operating temperature, eliminating the need for stop-and-go stands.

The WXA2 control system offers the ultimate in temperature precision and performance. The standard power-sharing feature offers the flexibility to simultaneously operate any WX series tool, or combination of tools, up to 255 watts of total power output. The WX series station also acts as a "Benchtop Controller" to communicate with other Weller external devices such as the Weller WHP1000 / WHP3000 pre-heating plates or the Weller Zero Smog 4V / 6V series solder fume extraction units. An external compressed air supply requiring 58 to 87 PSI is needed to deliver the hot air for the WXA2 series stations.

"Our talented team of engineers developed the WXA2 in response to customer feedback. We believe this new system raises the bar for dual purpose hot air and soldering stations," added Dupuis.

The new WXA2 combined with the WXHAP200 is ideal for professional repair or rework on state-of-the-art electronic assemblies in the industrial manufacturing, repair and laboratory sectors.
